People-Powered Vaccines for Everyone, Everywhere
Beginning today, you can Go Give One – a COVID-19 vaccine – with the click of a button. Doing so will help ensure that everyone, everywhere has access. And that’s what we all need to be free of this pandemic.
“The pandemic will not be over anywhere until it is over everywhere.” This is the refrain of public health leaders as the vaccine roll-out continues. For good reason. Today, the world is increasingly bifurcated: in wealthy countries, 1 in 4 people has received the vaccine; in lower-income countries, it’s only 1 in 500. This inequity is a moral failure. It’s also epidemiologically and economically self-defeating. A vaccine-resistant variant that flourishes in any corner of the world could set us all back. And make no mistake, the virus is still spreading like wildfire.
For those getting vaccinated, the contrast between such sober news and the joy of being protected is jarring. We are left wondering what we can do to help. How to turn our privilege into power.
Fortunately, there is a solution: COVAX. An initiative of the World Health Organization, the Vaccine Alliance, and their partners, COVAX has helped develop vaccines in record time and is responsible for supplying them to 92 lower-income countries. Governments are giving to COVAX, but it’s not enough.
That’s why the WHO Foundation created Go Give One, a fundraising campaign with no borders that empowers people to invest in the health of their world by making a small donation, directly to COVAX to buy vaccines. Amplified by millions and facilitated by businesses who will promote the campaign to employees and customers, those individual actions can change the course of this disease.
Now is the time for people to power vaccines. Go Give One, and others will do the same. If all of us Go Give One, the governments who represent us will follow our lead to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access.
Act now at GoGiveOne.org. And please spread the word.
