People, Poetry, Positivity, Post-it Statistics!

Happy International Women's Day!

Realized something today (yes, after almost 40 weeks of writing this newsletter) that I don't need to have a long introduction to it when I actually post it on LinkedIn!! While being verbose is not the worst thing, it sucks up time from my readers' lives to read a long description up-front and then read the newsletter.

Most people were choosing to do one or the other. And part of the problem is that when subscribers get notified of the newsletter, they don't see the original post that went along side it, anyway! So, here on out, the post description will be very short, and all the content will be in the actual newsletter.

Last week I started highlighting three people each week, to help them get more followers and support as they navigate through the journey of posting regularly on LinkedIn and building their presence and brands. I had highlighted Lynn Lehenbauer , Scott Binger , and Nishat Jones last week.

This week, I want to highlight the following people, who are posting on LinkedIn frequently and their content is amazing:

  1. Nayantara Kochhar : Someone I connected with only a few months ago, but she impresses me with her insightful posts every single day, helping budding entrepreneurs!!
  2. Mark Smoliar : Digital Transformation and tech guy who writes very informative posts daily and recently launched a newsletter on Substack. Probably one of my favorite-to-the-point newsletters out of all the ones I receive.
  3. Rob Wall: One of the coolest "data geeks" out there who does amazing stuff with AI! He posts frequently (often more than once a day). See below for a recent post he did for IWD using music and poetry!

This Week in Review

If you know me at all, you know that I typically don't plan the content of my posts ahead of time. This week, somehow, there was a whole poetry aspect that showed up in all of my posts. Started on Sunday with "Pieces of Glass" and a stained-window style sketch to go along with it. On Monday, in an effort to be "more serious," I started by creating a statistical iceberg sketch and then just as I posted, I had to write a "Dashing through the board" limerick! LOL.

On Tuesday the focus was on tariffs with the frenzy in the world on the launch of the tariff wars. Hard to be very poetic about this! Wednesday's post was dedicated to helping businesses figure out how to manage costs. Thursday's post was about International Women's Day and Women's History Month with an ode written for all the amazing women in our lives.

Every Friday, I try to make posts primarily for individuals who are seeking to grow in their careers by either finding a job or switching their jobs. #GetHired2025. This week's post tried to show how to shift the mindset by redefining PANIC mean being Positive, Active, Networking, Innovative, and Creative. The job market is going to be tough but hang in there. Things will improve.

Positive affirmations, when spoken out loudly and believed in, have the power to actually change your life!

DISCLAIMER: My daily Post-it series only presents a snapshot of the possibilities that are out there. They are not designed to be comprehensive solutions. For folks who want to implement models or data analysis or improve their own businesses using any of these concepts, I am only a DM away!

LinkedIn Observations for This Week

LinkedIn has been a bit different this week based on what I have heard from multiple folks and have observed myself. Posts seem to be getting traction much more slowly, for ordinary folks like us, at least! If you have a Blue Badge, you might have a different experience, but I am not sure.

If you have not checked this brilliant resource by LinkedIn out yet, you need to do it now. This page gives daily highlights of trending topics on LinkedIn and provides links to submit your own posts (short, vertical style videos are preferred) for consideration of being featured by the Editors. Check out LinkedIn Trending Conversations page and if you scroll down, you will also see ongoing "campaigns" that LinkedIn is supporting such as Women's History Month this month, among others.

Three top observations for this week:

  1. Create vertical style, short-form video content, if possible. Use tools like Clipchamp or CapCut to edit and add subtitles to your videos. Most people don't listen to the audio on videos, they tend to just read the captions.
  2. Most people view their LinkedIn feed on their mobile phones. While it can raise impressions of your content or even reactions, it does affect the comments especially on video content, because it is harder to leave a comment from the phone on vertical form videos.
  3. Sometimes what you feel is your best content, does the most poorly on LinkedIn. And that is because it might not resonate with your audience as much as it does with you. In situations like these, it is best to remember that you are here to build a brand and connect with like-minded people. Don't overinvest your emotions or time into any single post (this is true for any social media platform) because you don't control the algorithm, and you can't control everyone's feed. What you can control is how many people you interact with, support, and connect with. Those are your tribe - treasure them!

As always, I will end with this reminder:

Keep creating content, connecting with people on a genuine level, and consistently showing up on LinkedIn, to make it work for you!

You are certainly not the first person that I have heard say LinkedIn reach or engagement was slower this week. In relation to the trending piece, if you can get your content noticed by LinkedIn editors you have a better chance of achieving a LinkedIn blue badge, which are now reviewed every 6 months.
