People of Pluralsight: Meet Manolo Martin

People of Pluralsight: Meet Manolo Martin

Welcome to the fourth edition of the refreshed People of Pluralsight series! This series spotlights our team members—the people who make the difference—and showcases their diverse talents, experiences, and stories.?

In this edition, we’re excited to introduce you to Manolo Martin , Software Engineer.?

Manolo Martin’s Pluralsight journey started when he found a posting for an internship at Pluralsight. As someone who was already using learning platforms, he was impressed with Pluralsight’s product and felt immediately comfortable with the people he met during his interviews.

Manolo didn’t have much industry experience when he started his internship, but the supportive and collaborative nature of his team allowed him to increase his confidence as a developer. One of his previous team members, Naeem, is still a mentor and has given him valuable advice on how to grow as a tech professional. Writing things down has been one of the best pieces of advice that he received from Naeem and is something he would recommend to any new developer.?

After successfully transitioning from intern to full-time team member, Manolo is focused on growing his skills and expertise so he can one day meet his goal of becoming a senior developer—and he’s using Pluralsight’s tech skills platform to help him get there! He has already completed the required courses for his role at Pluralsight in addition to taking a C# ASP.NET course and completing Skill IQs in Typescript and Svelte. The Skill IQs are Manolo’s favorite part of Pluralsight Skills.?

“It is really hard to rank your skills on your own—you don’t know what you don’t know—so having access to an assessment that will rank your skills for you is really insightful.”

The Typescript and Svelte Skill IQs helped Manolo identify his areas for improvement and suggested courses that helped strengthen his skills. He plans to take more Skill IQ tests to continue his growth and development in a variety of tech skills, like coding languages.?

Manolo is driven by a desire to do impactful work. To him, impactful work doesn’t always need to be visible, but it should make a difference. He volunteers to own tasks that benefit his team, even if they’re not the most glamorous—this not only helps his team, but also allows him to learn a variety of skills that will help him in the future.

During his internship, Manolo didn’t meet many people outside of his team. Since joining full-time, he has focused on building a wider community and has met new people through the seeColor Employee Resource Group. This group has mirrored Manolo’s experience with his team, immediately welcoming and embracing him as part of their community, and he recently got to meet some of them in person on a trip to Washington, D.C.?

Given Manolo’s focus on continuous learning and improvement, we are appointing him the title of Growth Seeker. Manolo lives in Pittsburgh and likes playing video games in his free time. He currently really enjoys playing single-player role-playing games (RPGs), like Elden Ring, and is navigating the challenges of the latest DLC.?

Collage of photos from Manolo's life: his first time snowboarding, him at the National Portrait Gallery, him at the National Society of Black Engineers convention, his grandparent's bulldog.

Here are some other fun facts about Manolo:

Favorite thing about working at Pluralsight:

  • The people, the work-life balance, and the free access to Pluralsight’s products!

Project that he’s most proud of:

  • The reskin project that he worked on during his internship. This project was a daunting but rewarding experience that allowed him to explore the codebase and contribute to something that was highly visible.
