People Need Maintenance Too!

“Rebooting and Defragmenting” Your Body for Optimal Performance

Here at Shield Watch IT and Web Services, we are well aware of the importance of keeping computer systems updated and appropriately maintained. We’ve built a very successful business around knowing exactly how to keep technology running at peak performance. Reliable, available, high-performing systems play an integral part in keeping customers happy, revenues flowing and business growth climbing.

Smart businesses also recognize though, that their ‘People Power’ is equally as important in achieving these goals. So today we would like to highlight yet another reason why we’re different than other Bay Area technology companies - in the way we invest in our human capital. On the eve of our company-wide Health Challenge, were sharing some of the many ways companies can promote dietary and lifestyle changes that lead to lower absenteeism, higher engagement, and better workforce performance overall.

Our company has recently brought in registered nutritionists for an afternoon of diet and lifestyle training and Q&A. It proved to be just what everyone needed to get educated and motivated in the right direction. It then purchased FitBit armbands for each of its employees. For just around $100, these devices actively track steps taken, calories burned and sleep activity, while wirelessly synchronizing with a robust mobile app.

Combined with the analytics available on the FitBit website, we’ll be monitoring each others’ progress, and providing health-themed rewards and bonuses for teams and individuals with the highest achievements and/or greatest improvements. Our goal is simple and clear: to become healthier, higher-performing versions of ourselves. How is that for an “upgrade!”

Here are even more ways employees can reward their systems, thereby maintaining healthy minds and bodies, be sure to share them with family and friends:

  • Eat real food - avoid processed food-like products located in the center aisles and packaged in boxes, cans and bags.
  • Eat locally grown, in-season fruits and vegetables; choosing Organic whenever possible.
  • Reduce sugar intake - avoid added sweeteners of all types; it’s in everything, so read the labels!
  • Avoid soda - drink water instead.
  • Move your body - exercise of all types, especially HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training)
  • Employ stress-management techniques - breathing exercises, meditation and Yoga are great examples.
  • Get more, higher-quality sleep - most people should average 8 hours of deep, restful sleep per night.

It’s hard to argue the facts:

  • Corporate health training, fitness encouragement, and company-subsidized measurement devices lead to increased employee wellness engagement.
  • Improved diet and exercise leads to improved wellness, body and mind.
  • Healthier people have more energy, think clearer, handle stress better, and are sick less often.
  • High-performing, present employees lead to stronger businesses.
  • And increased business efficiency lead to greater profits!

So these investments are good for the employee, good for the business, and good for its customers: so it’s win/win/win!
