People Matters Top Stories in 2023

2023 was a year of impact indeed! And we at People Matters are proud to have been at the forefront of bringing some of that impact to our community in the form of knowledgeable conversations, incisive insights, and highly relevant perspectives.?

As we enter the fifteen year anniversary of our brand, I want to pause and celebrate the commitment of our team, their relentless drive to make a difference and serve our community in the region. Delighted to share with you five of our favourite stories from the year:

There’s no one better than the global CHRO of AI pioneer IBM to outline the way forward for the HR profession in an age of AI-centric automation. We had the great privilege of hearing Nickle LaMoreaux aux in person, on how HR can work with this rapidly developing technology and where the people function needs to orient itself in an AI-powered world.

Who could forget the ferocious online and offline debate that Infosys founder N. R. Narayana Murthy ignited when he suggested that Indian youth should work 70 hours a week to make the country more competitive? We pulled together reactions from other top leaders who either supported or disagreed with that suggestion, from Shark Tank to Tech Mahindra to Marico

Helping to protect employee downtime and personal time is an important part of HR professionals’ work, but so is supporting productivity and performance. We’re delighted that our coverage of a pilot scheme for implementing the four-day week in Australia and New Zealand has been so useful to our community!

Job cuts are a regular part of business, but they can also be important indicators of the economy. To help our community keep a finger on the pulse of the job market, we’ve been tracking cuts by major companies throughout the year.

When a HR leader moves, it signifies a change in the people strategy of the organisation they’re moving to and possibly the one they’re leaving. To help our community keep track of who’s shifted to where, we’ve compiled some major movements over the course of the year.

Share your own favorite themes for HR leaders in 2023, what has been the most critical conversation, advancement or breakthrough of this last year?

Please share and we will favorite themes, articles or insights from the last year.?

We look forward to continue to serve you in 2024 with passion, commitment and perseverance.?
