After the terrible attack in Manchester earlier this week, it has been inspiring to see the amazing response of people in the city and all around the world. There is an overwhelming commitment to unity, for different communities to live in peace and mutual respect. The people of Manchester have stood proud and courageous, supporting each other selflessly. It has been a message of love, broadcast around the world in defiance of those who would split, divide and spread hatred between people.
We have seen a belief in building connections, trust and mutual respect. A belief in bringing people together, encouraging unity of purpose and action. We can stand alongside the people of Manchester with pride, as well as respect for those who died and suffered at the Manchester Arena on Monday evening. Watching Manchester United dedicate their victory in the Europa Cup to the victims of the attack brought a smile to many faces. During the week the fans of both United and City have risen above local rivalries to demonstrate a City United.
The message of connection, of rising above tribal loyalties, of courage and collaboration is stronger than ever, in spite of the hatred and division preached by terrorists and some politicians.
