The "people" aspect of being a People Manager is often overlooked. I’m sure many of my HR colleagues would agree that many managers don’t fully realize how their role can profoundly impact the employee experience.
Empathy is essential for People Managers, especially in an AI-driven world where we need to differentiate ourselves. Policies may not always address every situation perfectly. When we examine an organization’s process documents, it’s clear that People Managers play a crucial role. They are given the authority to be fair and empathetic toward their teams. While AI can generate responses to queries, we need People Managers who can bring a human touch—someone who understands the emotions and unique circumstances each team member is experiencing.
Engaging the team in the right direction aligning to individual’s career aspiration and organization goal is imperative. People Managers can support their teams in several ways: Open Communication, Empathy and Understanding, Regular Check-Ins, Professional Development, Recognition and Feedback, Work-Life Balance, Conflict Resolution, and Resource Allocation.
By implementing these strategies, People Managers can cultivate a supportive environment that enhances team performance and well-being. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how we can foster healthy work relationships and create an enriching employee experience.
