In today’s rapidly changing work environment, it’s not enough to just be a leader but it’s important to be a motivator and also a person who could help employees to solve difficult problems when in need. People management skill is not just effective for improved productivity but it also correlates with the employees to motivate them to work harder and smarter. People management skill is not just helpful in profession per se but it’s also important in maintaining personal relationships as well.
Focus on your emotional quotient. The emotional quotient is as important as the intelligent quotient. Instead of demanding your team members what to do, always be open to ideas and listen to them. Provide your team with direction and goals without micromanaging.
Get everyone involved. A team will always have a mix of introverts and extroverts so take effort to involve the introverts because the extroverts usually tend to dominate. Hence, a sign of good leadership is to get the quieter ones involved as they usually have good ideas.
Exhibit integrity. It’s important to let your team members know that you’re honest and trustworthy. Explain what you mean and if in certain situations you do not know the answer to any questions your team members shoot then admit to it.
Creative a positive work environment. Inspire and motivate people. Celebrate them or even throw parties as a token of appreciation or reward them publicly. This will motivate them to do better.
Set a good example. The key to people management is leadership and the best way to lead is by example. Set an example to your employees because when you tend to do what you expect from them, they will automatically start following you. For instance, be punctual; arrive to work on time or even early. Stick to break timings and respect others' time as well.
Pay attention to communication skills. It’s necessary to repeat the important messages over and over again. It’s said that a great leader must always communicate transparently and make others understand the goals and objectives to ensure that everyone are on the same page.
Macromanagement. You might often be familiar with micromanagement which means close observation and control of employees' works. Macromanagement is just the opposite, in which the working style is more independent. Here the employees are given the freedom to do their job in their way unless and until the employee gives the desired result. This gives the employees the freedom to solve their problems and work on perfecting their skills.
