People leave Organizations, not Bosses!!!
"People leave bosses and not organizations" - Like most of us have read this statement and have come to believe that it is indeed true. But, really? What a lie!!!
If the above statement is a lie, then what do the employees leave? Let us look at the statement from another perspective, shall we?
- People leave organizations which support the bad bosses.
- People leave organizations that has created a conducive environment for such bosses to grow and prosper.
- People leave organizations which puts employees on the firing line knowing well that the bullet belongs somewhere else.
- People leave organizations which has not established good systems/processes that can monitor and report such bad bosses.
- People leave organizations which are dependent on one or two individuals and doesn't have a broader knowledge base.
And such organizations which is incapable of putting the bad bosses in place, chooses the easy way out and takes it on the employees.
It is time the organizations and managements own it up and not point fingers at the bosses. At any point of time, an organization should be bigger than the individuals. If an organization is able to stoop as low as an individual wants it to, then it is time for such an organization to call it a day!!!
So I repeat, People leave (incapable) organizations not (bad) bosses.

5 年Looking from different angle is encouraging and a art where majority people can not think much and join bandwagon. Thanks. One more thought I can add is, sometimes people leave organisation for better growth or some work/ commiting comfort even working under good boss . However they do not leave boss and keep in touch as guide even working in different organisation.

5 年Bravo, i like the way you have looked at this issue. After reading it couple of times I tend to agree, a culture created in an organisation is what loyal employees are either drawn to or run away from. The people who are part of the system and have influencing capacity within the system are responsible to build the culture. Good or bad is a perspective, but yes employees based on their perspective decide to stay or move on.

5 年Interesting view point, Kannan. At sr levels, bosses are part of leadership team. What decisions that they take, take the organization to a certain direction and also gets a culture created, conducive, either ways, positive or otherwise. In such cases, when an employee leave, is it because of the boss or organization?

5 年Well, I think organisation is made of people and is driven by people. Organisation provides environment and experiences are provided by bosses. When either one is not aligned with individual aspirations, one has to move on to fulfil their dreams and desires
