Shashidhar Bhat - he is our go-to person for concepts related to engineering for Upstream Oil and Gas projects.?
Born and bought up in the Sillicon Valley of India - Bangalore, he graduated in Bachelors of Chemical Engineering from M S Ramaiah Institute of technology in the year 2000.
Currently he is residing in Kualalumpur Malaysia and working with SBM Offshore as Engineering Manager.
If you are aware of the roles and responsibilities of an Engineering Manager, you will appreciate that this is such a role that requires one of the highest levels of technical acumen along with the team management.
So how do you build your career in such a challenging position?
Shashidhar has a simple suggestion:
Diversify your career and don’t stick to just one type of role.
If you look into his career path, he has diversified it into Consultancy, EPC, FPSO and operations.

He has a strong background not only in engineering/design management but also in operations of upstream oil and gas facilities. This is a crucial aspect of any oil and gas facility – Design what you can operate reliably and safely.
His career has a history of managing projects from initial conception, feasibility, FEED, detail design, and Brown Field Engineering with a strong fundamental in Process Safety.
He has been in the industry for 22 years, with varied experience in all the different facets of Upstream Oil and Gas business like– Engineering, Project Management and Operations.
But was his career path always so smooth and rewarding? Not exactly.

He was an average student and couldn’t land a job in the first 6 months of his career. ?But due to his learning aptitude, he was able to convert it into a successful career span of 22 years and still running!
So if you are a youngster in oil and gas or a similar field, and feel that you don’t have a great start to your career – don’t be demoralized.
You can seek inspiration from people like Shashidhar – who really are People of Impact!
What will be Shashidhar’s one suggestion for all -
Always be curious about gaining knowledge. The broader and deeper your experience is the more growth you will see in your career.
He is also a firm believer in the quote

Hence, he believes in freely sharing his experience to help young professionals in the Oil and gas industry. This is also evident with his numerous posts on LinkedIn, which been a guiding content for many!
Fun fact- When he is not designing and building massive FPSOs, he utilizes his time to assemble furniture from IKEA .
His family does not consider his engineering degree of any value if he cannot fix simple household items. We are sure, every Engineer will relate to this!! ????
