PEOPLE in FOCUS: a dialogue with Nuzhet Inci Kilic

Please meet Inci - a PhD student of AM4Life Competence Centre who is working in Work Package 1: Development of Equipment and Processes under supervision of Prof. Stefan Johansson .

Tell us about your background and your project?

My name is Nüzhet ?nci K?l?? and I was born in Ankara (Turkey). After graduating with a BSc in Materials Science and Nanotechnology Engineering at TOBB Economics and Technology University, I moved to Stockholm (Sweden) for my Master in Nanotechnology at Kungliga Tekniska h?gskolan . During my educational path, I also had the opportunity to complement my skills with hands-on experiences in the industry, with dedicated internships. After my MSc thesis in the Applied Physics Department at KTH, I was enthusiastic about combining skills from several fields to achieve a multidisciplinary aim. The position at the Microsystems Technology division in the Materials Science and Engineering department of Uppsala University quickly attracted my attention for its scope.

My PhD project aims at advancing the current knowledge on biosensor design and applications, by implementing additive manufacturing techniques.

What is so exciting about your role and your project?

The multidisciplinarity makes my project very exciting, combining several disciplines like Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology for a common scope. This approach naturally presents many challenges I enthusiastically try to solve in my daily work.?

How does it feel to be a PhD student?

The position of PhD student allows me to keep on actively learning while being fully employed. I think this is a unique experience to know one’s own limits and try to overcome them. ?

What are your interests outside PhD duties? Hobbies, interests, what are you doing when you have fee time?

Living in Stockholm and working in Uppsala make my weekday life very hectic due to commuting times. On weekends, I like getting back my pace with a coffee with friends and long walks around Stockholm, which is a young, vibrant, and multicultural city. I like cooking and, of course, eating while watching TV series. Pandemics allowing, I love traveling around the world, finding similarities and differences among different cultures.

How does it feel to be a part of AM4Life Competence Centre?

Being part of?AM4Life Competence Centre?gives me the opportunity to work in an industrial-academic context, providing an optimal balance between educational and industrial-oriented objectives, which constitutes the main benefit, in my opinion, fulfilling my expectations.??
