People Are Everything

People Are Everything

Here are a few phrases that sum up my ideas about the importance of your employees.

  • People are not assets. They are unique individuals that deserve respect, support, and dignity.
  • The customer's experience will never exceed the employee's experience.
  • Your company's success is directly dependent on the quality of the people you can get, grow, and keep on your team.
  • It doesn't matter what sort of machinery, intellectual property, or fantastic products you have. Nothing happens without your team.
  • When I asked a billionaire about his secret to business success, he replied, "It's all about people, people, people."

?

As a leader, your most important customers are your employees. Do you treat them like you treat your very best customers?

Top talent?wants seven things from the company they work in.

1.?Fair pay. 10% above or below what they would make to do the same job anyplace else.?

2.?Challenging and meaningful work. For many people, pursuing a worthy purpose is as important or more important than pay.

3.?Cool colleagues. A+ players only want to play with other A+ players.?

4.?Winning culture. A great place to work, working with great people.

5.?Personal and professional growth. Employees want the company to invest in their development and to see a career path for themselves in the organization.

6.?Flexibility. The pandemic has changed the game. Team members want the option to work from home or anywhere else if they choose.

7.?Work for a leader I trust, respect, and admire. People don't quit jobs. They quit people.

?

Remember that your frontline people are your business to the customer. You might have the best leadership team in the world. Still, it is who the customer directly interacts with that determines their opinion of your organization.

  • If you don't have time for your team, you will need to make time for bankruptcy court. That sounds harsh, but it's the truth.
  • Employees need some sort of genuine and specific praise at least once every ten days. This is why you must create a culture of catching people doing things right. A place where everyone in your business is on the lookout for an opportunity to praise one of their colleagues for doing great work.
  • If you believe that people are critical to the success of your business, you need to invest in their development and growth. If they don't get better, your business will not get better.
  • The only thing worse than training an employee and having them leave is not training them and having them stay.
  • If you have less than 100 people in your organization/department, do you know every person's name? You should.
  • There is no such thing as a company. It is a group of humans working together towards a common goal.
  • One of the best ways to build a successful company is to show your people that you love them. Yes, I used the "L" word.

To repeat from my billionaire friend, it's all about people, people, people.

Finding work that is meaningful is vital and number 7 is my favourite. I never left a bad company, only a bad leader.
