People desire that you be a partridge, not a hawk. By Oluseye Olugboyega (Adapted from Eniyan bi aparo by Tunji Oyelana)

People desire that you be a partridge, not a hawk.

People prefer that you appear beneath them.

They would not hesitate to destroy you if you were weak.

They would frustrate you if you were too powerful.

They would ridicule your talents if they were impossible to deny.

They would quickly discard you if you lacked talent.

They would tarnish your character if it was undeniably good and honest.

They would ignore you if your character was unavoidably awful.

People would dispute your advantage despite the fact that you exerted great effort to acquire it.

Nevertheless, they would mock your efforts to discover yourself and your advantage.

If they knew you'd discovered your true love, they would destroy it.

Even if Cupid condemned you, people would blame you for it.

People desire that you be a partridge rather than a hawk.

They desire that you be inferior to them.

Because they lack confidence in their accomplishments and choices and want them to be validated by the success stories and social standings of their peers.
