The people behind the designer
I'd like to thank @DeirdreMcQuillan the IRISH TIMES and the for featuring me today in the design suppliment. A career in design is only made possible through the great practices that give you a break and the fantastic people you work with along the way.
I was given a break by Kevin Hough in Access Building Design in Galway in 1994, Michael Clarke from Walls 2 Workstations brought me to Dublin and gave me a love of mid-century classics and a chance to work with @Knoll. By far the most important influence was Donogh O'Riordan who believed in a crazy glasses wearing designer with a big mouth. At his practice I got to work with great designers like Margaret Walsh, Aidan Healy, John Leane, Barry Power, Frauke Hartemeyer, Rosemary McSweeney and helmsman Michael Regan on the awesome Cliff of Moher Interpretive centre.
More recently I have tortured RKD and ARUPs on the the Architecture Factory (sorry for being such a spoilt demanding brat guys) and the CIT team of Paul D O'Sullivan, Fergus Delaney, and Daithi Fallon with John Burgess from ARUP and my former practice Henry J Lyons Architects and Turlough Clancy on the Zero2020 building.
This is of course not mentioning all the brilliant other design team members and builders that make these projects possible, and who are often left out of such articles.
I promise to continue to try to make you lives hell for a while yet!

7 年You know I always forget some names when you thank people. I remember the glass stair at the cliffs of moher breaking Rosemary McSweeney’s heart and the incessant thermal analysis on Zero2020 driving Turlough Clancy up the walls. Couldnt have achieved any of this with my family either!

7 年Lovely article Marc. I agree totally with your biggest interiors turnoff; and comments about homogenized streetscapes.
