People Analytics: helpful resources, part 1

People Analytics: helpful resources, part 1

Last post, I shared three key lessons I’ve learned as I’ve dug into the world of People Analytics. In this short post, I’d like to share three resources that have been helpful to me so far.

The Power of People: How Successful Organizations Use Workforce Analytics To Improve Business Performance. This book by Nigel Guenole, Jonathan Ferrar, and Sheri Feinzig gives a thorough introduction to the field and process of People Analytics, and includes case studies of how data projects have been implemented at major companies.

“Boosting Your Team’s Data Literacy” and “Rethinking the Build vs. Buy Approach to Talent” by Josh Bersin. In the U.S., Josh Bersin is “the dude” when it comes to People Analytics. And for good reason. He has that rare blend of insightfulness and conciseness. I’ve recently become a member of the Josh Bersin Academy, and will taking it its People Analytics course next week.

People Analytics course offered by the Wharton School through Coursera. I’m only 30% through this MOOC, yet already hooked on it. Learning much valuable information about how important it is to separate skill from luck/chance when evaluating performance. Also, the different biases that cloud our analytical judgement.

I’ve got a lot more resources in the queue, and will report back as I work through them. Have a People Analytics resource suggestion? Please pass it on.
