People Are All That Matters

Ever heard of “The Ship of Theseus”?

I was homeschooled and my mom loved teaching us Greek mythology.

You learn something new about me everyday I guess…

To continue my story, the Ship of Theseus wasn’t actually real… It was just a concept.

Hence the whole “Greek mythology” thing ??

However, it is one of those thought experiments I love to wrap my mind around for hours.

So get ready to get lost with me for a hot minute…?

To summarize, Theseus was a mythical king who rescued a bunch of children from a mythical evil king.?

Once he saved them, he put all the kids on his ship and took them to the island Delos.?

To honor his heroism, the Greeks sailed his ship to the island Delos once a year for hundreds of years.?

Now, this next part is where it gets really interesting…?

As the story goes, after hundreds of years of maintenance, each individual piece of the ship was replaced…

The helm, the entire deck, every sail, and every row…

And instead of looking like a fresh or modern update to its older self…

The latest version of the ship and the original looked nothing alike.?

So this raises the question…

If each and every one of the ship’s parts had been replaced with a different one, was it still the same ship?

Philosophers have been fighting over this for centuries.?

There are strong arguments on both sides, but more people say it’s still the same ship and here’s why…

The cells of your body die off and get replaced with new ones all the time.?

So right now, you don’t have a single cell in your body you were born with.?

The “baby you” and the “adult you” are nothing alike.?

But your DNA is the same and you are still the same person.?

It’s a crazy thought…

And a perfect example of why it’s so important to value relationships, people and the long game over transactions, products/services and instant gratification in life.?

New technologies will always replace the old ones…

Trends will come and go…

New platforms will take over, leaving the “outdated” ones behind...

But what truly matters in life will always stay the same:

Relationships ????

Regardless of AI taking over the world or the new trendy ways to book meetings…

Relationships will always matter more than meaningless, one-time transactions.

People will always matter more than products or services.

And the long game will always be in play whereas the short game comes and goes.?
