Pentecost Sunday

As we have discussed in previous Lessons, though to those trained to “Preach the WORD of GOD” it might be the first time they ever heard this but it is NOT the Pastor’s words that open the eyes of our Congregations but the HOLY SPIRIT alone who awakens our dead souls (through regeneration), opens our eyes and allows us to see the full context of the Bible even though the weekly fragmentist misses the point completely. I invite you to click on the link and go to the webpage section on Fractured Fairy Tales;?https://sites.google.com/view/itsallaboutjesus-paulwallace/learning-to-listen-again

Our readings and homily though a repeat of one I post yearly for Pentecost should remind us of something not taught in Seminaries, that we Pastors are indeed preaching to Tombstones (we Pastors too are Tombstones (sadly many still are and are Pretending) Save the LORD’S Awakening us too from the Dead) as by the Will of the FATHER, through the Full Purchase Paid by the SON Jesus Christ, and the Full Regeneration of the HOLY SPIRIT are we saved, IN SPITE of our Pastors NOT because of them.

We have come to a Point in the LORD’S Plan where the message is ordained for the HOLY SPIRIT to come out of the shadows HE has been seen in, in the Old Testament part of the Plan of Salvation, now, the HOLY SPIRIT come to the Center of the Plan, as FATHER Ordains, the SON Redeems, and the HOLY SPIRIT as HE has done in the shadows of the Old Testament opening the eyes of the narrow path that kept the Genetic Line of the coming Christ completely clear and fully followable, Now Opens the Eyes every believer into the Billions, and Pentecost starts HIS Mission in full.

With the readings as long as they need to be and woven into this piece, I will not get in the way of the HOLY SPIRIT’S work, with my humble comments so they will be real short.

We will notice that Dr. Luke the writer of Acts tells us the time of the day that this occurred 9:00AM as the third hour is marked from 6:00AM.

1. Christ is made the sure foundation,

Christ the head and cornerstone;

chosen of the Lord and precious,

binding all the church in one;

holy Zion's help forever,

and her confidence alone.

2. To this temple, where we call thee,

come, O Lord of Hosts, today!

With thy faithful loving-kindness

hear thy people as they pray,

and thy fullest benediction

shed within its walls alway.

3. Here vouchsafe to all thy servants

what they ask of thee to gain;

what they gain from thee forever

with the blessed to retain,

and hereafter in thy glory

evermore with thee to reign.

4. Laud and honor to the Father,

laud and honor to the Son,

laud and honor to the Spirit,

ever three and ever one;

one in might and one in glory,

while unending ages run.

First Reading

Jonah 3:4-10

4 Then Jonah began to go through the city one day's walk; and he cried out and said, "Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown."

?5 ? Then the people of Nineveh believed in God; and they called a fast and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least of them.

?6 When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe from him, covered himself with sackcloth and sat on the ashes.

?7 He issued a proclamation and it said, "In Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat or drink water.

?8 "But both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth; and let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from his wicked way and from the violence which is in his hands.

?9 "Who knows, God may turn and relent and withdraw His burning anger so that we will not perish."

?10 When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.

The LORD’S Prayer & Apostles Creed

Matthew 6:9 ? And Jesus said "In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

?10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

?11 Give us this day our daily bread.

?12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

?13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

?

Christian What Do You Believe?

I believe in God the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

Born of the Virgin Mary,

Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, dead, and buried:

He descended into hell;

The third day he rose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,

And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost;

The Holy Catholic Church;

The Communion of Saints;

The Forgiveness of sins;

The Resurrection of the body,

And the Life everlasting.

Amen.

Homily

The reading is long, so the comments will be real short.

We will notice that Dr. Luke the writer of Acts tells us the time of the day that this occurred 9:00AM as the third hour is marked from 6:00AM.

Next we notice that the languages being spoken by these Galilean Fishermen are recognizable Languages NOT Gibberish!!! ?This is extremely important as it clearly refutes many misunderstandings of speaking in languages as the speaking is, and must be able to be interpreted by others.

1Co 14:27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret;

?28 but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God.

?29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment.

For example it is as if we walked out the door having never learned the language we spoke perfect Japanese, as proven by the Japanese in the audience understanding.

We see Peter explain that they are not drunk as it is only 9:00AM, if you go through the Bible you will find the drinking was done after work or at night and yes they drank see Boaz, see David and Uriah, see Noah implied. It is also important to note for those who claim the wine of that day was not the alcohol based fermented drink of today, a popular fabrication of those denominations who like to forbid everything including dancing, another think David did, and yet the honest reading of the scriptures is that they truly were drunk, and it wasn’t on straight grape juice!

Next we see Peter proclaim the Gospel using a very Novel approach and one I would suggest bluntly that we are well served in putting Sermons together as Peter, Stephen, Paul, used scripture to speak on Scripture, not the latest Theologians book, that may leave more questions than answers.

One other thought, as with the Message brought without heart for the audience by Jonah, and the half message brought by Peter, it is the HOLY SPIRIT who opens eyes, and not how long we teach. In fact the LORD "uses" this great message (hint the LORD alone opens eyes) to convert more than 120,000 persons "Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown."

But the Purpose of Pentecost from the Start to the end of the Church was a sign just like Baptism that the Triune GOD, as promised by our LORD Jesus Christ will be there personally to Guide the Church.

Pentecost is another of the Celebration in the Church Year that should NEVER be overlooked.

?

Don’t forget to try to wear something Red Sunday (though you are not compelled to do so)??

Acts 2:1 ? When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.

?2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

?3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.

?4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

?5 ? Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.

?6 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language.

?7 They were amazed and astonished, saying, "Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?

?8 "And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?

?9 "Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

?10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

?11 Cretans and Arabs--we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God."

?12 And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, "What does this mean?"

?13 But others were mocking and saying, "They are full of sweet wine."

?14 ? But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words.

?15 "For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day;

?16 but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:

?17 'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS;

?18 EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy.

?19 'AND I WILL GRANT WONDERS IN THE SKY ABOVE AND SIGNS ON THE EARTH BELOW, BLOOD, AND FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE.

?20 'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME.

?21 'AND IT SHALL BE THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'

?22 "Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know--

?23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.

?24 "But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.

?25 "For David says of Him, 'I SAW THE LORD ALWAYS IN MY PRESENCE; FOR HE IS AT MY RIGHT HAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN.

?26 'THEREFORE MY HEART WAS GLAD AND MY TONGUE EXULTED; MOREOVER MY FLESH ALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE;

?27 BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES, NOR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.

?28 'YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE; YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF GLADNESS WITH YOUR PRESENCE.'

?29 "Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

?30 "And so, because he was a prophet and knew that GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE,

?31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY.

?32 "This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.

?33 "Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.

?34 "For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,

?35 UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET."'

?36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ--this Jesus whom you crucified."

?37 ? Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"

?38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

?39 "For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself."

?40 And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!"

?41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.

?42 ? They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

?43 Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.

?44 And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common;

?45 and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.

?46 Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart,

?47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.

The LORD’S Feast

1Co 11:23 ? For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread;

?24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."

?25 In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."

?26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.

?27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.

?28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

?29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.
