A Pension Is just a Pension?

A common thing that people I meet mention, is that ‘all pensions are the same’ and ‘I’m going to move my old company scheme into my new one’.
It’s really important to establish here that there are thousands of investment funds running in the UK that your pension could be invested in. Each pension will be invested in different ways and each of them will perform differently as a result.
An important consideration is how the pension money is invested. Many clients I meet are invested in funds without proper advice and are either disappointed with the growth or uneasy with the fluctuations of their pension’s value. Also, what are the charges for each pension, some are cheaper than others. What are the retirement options available when you retire, even this varies by pension contract and provider.
It’s really important to get good advice on your pensions, they need to be right for you. A financial adviser will take the time to understand you, your circumstances and your goals, and can help you make the right investment choices.
