One of the many things corporate wellness are encouraging is a new definition of retirement. This concept of wellness may originate in the workplace, but it extends to employees who are part of the same fraternity of healthy and active retirees; people who embody a lifestyle, which flourishes well after they stop going to the office and relinquish their formal responsibilities. Currently, most employees expect their employers to take this holistic approach toward their overall financial situation.

The duty each employer owes its workers, which will make wellness a sustainable lifestyle for future retirees and their families, is simple: Provide employees with options; explain to them that retirement is no longer a false choice between relocating to rural homes, taking a holiday versus another. The goal, instead, should be to think and act more expansively; to consider the best way to maximize personal health, strengthen the value of a pension. This can be made possible through regular pre and post retirement trainings from certified and experienced provides in the pension and financial sector.

Retirement as a philosophy of wellness

Companies need to approach this matter with a global perspective. Employers need to treat retirement as the beginning of renewed health and vitality.

In Kenya, most of the employers are now focusing more in pre and post retirement trainings, financial training for their employees. Service providers like Finnet Trust, Arrow Financials, Decapoli consulting and others have a big task to provide such trainings. Pension admnistrators like Zamara, Octagon, Minet, Enwealth, Liason and among others are also in the forefront to make sure that pension schemes under their administration have regular training with major focus in financial and social wellness at retirement.

In so many words, retirement should be healthy and exciting. That is the true meaning of corporate wellness.
