Penny Power Ponders Rest, Creativity, Connection and Comfort Zones

This week's Ponderings is a gentle reminder of the power of stepping back. As I prepare to take a brief break from these weekly musings, returning on August 26th, I reflect on the transformative nature of rest, not just as a pause but as a vital strategy for sustainable creativity and growth.

We are all navigating the complexities of entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial life, it's important to remember: we're not in this alone. Whether we’re forging paths in?our own ventures or innovating within established companies, our success hinges on our ability to manage our energy and nurture our creative spirits.

Why Rest Matters:

I find it so hard to rest, having fun and play was never part of my growing up, plus starting work at 19 with a rent and then mortgage to pay was also not conducive to this important habit.

This Ponderings is about rest, creativity and comfort zones and August is a brilliant time to do all three.

This is my 59th week of Ponderings and I am going to take a rest from them until you receive my next one on Monday 26th August. I sense a lot of people will want to do as little email as possible.

The joy of a quieter inbox and perhaps knowing that your clients are resting and not needing you as much can be equaled by the fear of the silence. August is a month when we can all get a bit anxious, it is harder to close new business and hard to be in close contact with clients. I know the feeling well, having spent 30 years working for myself, I really should know how to navigate August. This is what I was pondering leading up to my words to you today.

August Intentions:

Here are five personal commitments I'm making for August to ensure it's a month of meaningful work as well as rest.

  1. Project Planning: Identify three small projects that can transform the coming Autumn, requiring quiet and focus.
  2. Client Connection: Proactively reach out to clients who might appreciate a little extra attention during this typically slow month.
  3. Deepening Relationships: Forge closer bonds with five new contacts, setting the foundation for future collaboration.
  4. Creative Ventures: Begin transforming this year’s Ponderings into a book, editing daily to refine and revisit our shared journey.
  5. Learning and Growth: Embrace a new skill or challenge that pushes my boundaries, takes me out of a well trodden comfort zone, and enhances both my personal growth and business acumen.

A Closing Thought:

As the streets quiet down and local cafés look forward to our visits, let's make the most of this season. Whether it's catching up with friends, exploring new ideas, or simply taking a moment to breathe, every action we take builds towards a richer, more fulfilled personal and professional life.

Enjoy your July, have a restorative August, and I eagerly await our continued journey together at the end of summer. Let's embrace the slow pace with the intention to leap back into action, fully charged and inspired.

A superb post, Penny Power OBE... And, to coin a phrase, a rest is not just for August. With post-COVID-19 low energy, I've been forced to pace my usually high-energy life with rest. Frustrating at first but now I love it and, when fully recovered, I'll include times to chill in every day whatever I'm doing...

Thank you for sharing your profound and reflective Ponderings Penny. I completely agree with the premise that rest is crucial for both creativity and sustainable growth. Taking a step back isn't just a pause but a vital strategy to nurture our creative spirits and manage our energy effectively. I love the idea of you embarking on creative ventures like transforming your Ponderings into a book. Enjoy your well-deserved break, and thank you again for the valuable reflections you provide through your weekly Ponderings. I am sure you will let us all know when you have pulled them into a book that we can all read and enjoy.

Penny Power OBE ??resonates that we should stop, step back and enjoy a slower pace of life. Initially this may be annoying, this slowing down, but ideas will percolate in that slower stream. Enjoy your holiday season.
