Penny Power Ponders: The Gift of AI - More Time for Meaningful Relationships

This week, my Ponderings are to encourage us all to focus on our ‘humanness’ in this AI world and to thank AI for enabling us to have more time for the very thing that brings us joy, success and confidence in life and business, “time with one another’.

We all read about fear as well as the opportunities of AI. I am very excited by it, as already I see in our business that we have more time to spend on the very aspects of our business that differentiate us, we have more time with the people we care about.?

My constant message is about how each of us are seeing one another, how we are serving each other's deeper needs, and the joy of these interactions.

Defining Humanness

The word ‘humanness’ has crept into our modern language, and with good reason, we have to ensure we consciously remember that we are human, and that people want to know our human side.

Humanness is the quality of being compassionate and considerate toward others. Empathy, sensitivity, kindness, love, our ability to be creative and solve problems, these are all ways we express our humanness…

Without time for one another and immersion in a supportive culture, how can we understand the needs of those around us?

In an age where the art of conversation is diminishing, and many people report feeling more introverted, fostering deep, meaningful interactions is crucial.

Experiencing Deep Connection

We know, and have proved that as we become more connected digitally, our thirst for emotional connection grows.

Thomas and I run two lunches a month for Guests to experience deep, meaningful business and life stories. We have run them for 4 years, having over 700 ‘strangers’ come to our lunches and trust that everyone in the room will be open and share their truth. It is remarkable how, with only a very few exceptions, they are willing to be vulnerable and share their battles in life.?

Let’s face it, who hasn’t had battles? The relationships formed are based on truth and understanding of one another at a human level. Unsurprisingly, this can then spark an interest in understanding one another's business goals and skills.

Utilising the Gift of Time

AI not only enhances efficiency and scalability but also gifts us time - time that can be spent fostering deeper, more meaningful relationships.

Here’s how we can use this time effectively:

  1. Deepen Client Relationships: Schedule check-ins or face-to-face meetings to build trust and enhance partnerships.
  2. Enhance Team Dynamics: Spend time understanding the needs and feelings of your team members.
  3. Pursue Continuous Learning: Engage in workshops that boost your skills and keep you competitive.
  4. Network Effectively: Choose events that foster genuine connections rather than transactional interactions.
  5. Personal Well-being: Prioritise activities that improve your well-being, such as exercise, meditation, and quality time with loved ones.

The Human Touch Impact on Our Lives

By reallocating our time towards activities that require a human touch, we not only enhance our business but also our quality of life. Relationships deepen, networks expand, and personal satisfaction grows. AI doesn’t just change how we work; it transforms how we live, providing space to become more engaged, attentive, and connected.

As we integrate AI into our businesses, let's challenge ourselves to use the newfound time to enhance the human aspects of our lives.?

  • What will you do with the extra hours AI has given you??
  • How will you make your interactions more meaningful?

Beyond doing, you are right, AI removes excuses for getting out of the weeds and into the embrace of human kindness.

Truly insightful, Penny. I think you’ve nailed how we should look at AI, a mechanism to free up time for the things that really matter. At the same time I, and I think many others, find myself caught in a different challenge, trying to keep up with the relentless pace of AI advancements. Every day brings something new, and there’s a real fear of missing out on the latest breakthroughs. It can feel overwhelming. But the truth is, we don’t need to absorb everything at once. AI is going to continue evolving around us, and the best approach is to have a structured way of keeping up, focusing on what’s actually relevant, not just what’s new. For me, that means: - Staying clear on what I actually need to learn, not just what’s trending. - Picking a few trusted sources to consume. - Giving myself time to experiment rather than just reading about AI. The pace of change isn’t slowing down, so we have to find ways to stay on top of it without letting it consume us. AI should work for us, not the other way around. And with all that in mind, that’s why I’m really looking forward to AI giving me more time, not just to keep up, but to actually step back, connect with people, and foster the kind of deep relationships you talk about.

Love this concept, Penny, thank you. I'm afraid that with the constant evolution & growth of AI, that we won't have long enough to pause and actually leverage our newfound time. I want to use that time to deepen relationships as you suggest but feel that every minute I'm away from learning the newest tech, I'm that much further behind... I wish it was something where I could learn it, implement it, and then use the time forever more going forward but wonder if/when we'll have that opportunity to enjoy before we're on to the next.

Let’s use technology for good, and allowing space for deepening human connection can only be a good thing, certainly in my world. My intention for this year will a less online, more in the person. Although I must admit I’m still learning the AI ropes.
