Penns Woods Winery Blends Tradition with Kubota Innovation for a Solutions-Driven Future
When Gino Razzi immigrated to the United States from Italy's Abruzzo region in 1962, he brought with him a taste for world-class wines. After honorably serving his adopted home country for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, Gino embraced his love for wine in 1970 when he created a wine import business to bring his favorites from Italy to the United States.
While growing his successful wine-importing business over nearly three decades, Gino's love for wine turned into a passion for crafting it, and in the early 2000s, he began scouting properties in Pennsylvania until he came across a seven-acre, established vineyard in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania and knew it was the right place to lay down his winemaking roots. Intrigued by the location's proximity to First State National Park and its 25-year-old vines, he purchased the vineyard, brought the old vines back to life and Penns Woods Winery was born.
Since it was established in 2001, Penns Woods Winery has grown considerably. In 2006, Gino opened a tasting room, in 2010 he brought in his daughter, Carley, to help manage the growing business, and today, they grow 40 acres of vines across three different sites in Southeastern Pennsylvania where they produce 11 different varieties of European-style wines.
Penns Woods Winery's old-world roots, commitment to utilizing time-honored sustainable farming techniques, and the unique flavors of the Pennsylvania soil have earned them top awards and elevated the Pennsylvania wine scene's profile on the national and global stage. However, like any successful operation, they face challenges and are always looking for innovative ways to solve them.
Many of the challenges they face, like monitoring leaf and grape health, understanding how the weather will impact sugar pH levels, identifying areas to efficiently spray crops, and managing water use and manpower to till and mow multiple vineyard sites, can be solved with AI and automation. And that's where Kubota comes in.

Next month, the Penns Woods Winery team is joining Kubota for a special session at CES to share in depth the challenges they face on their vineyard, how Kubota's technology is helping to address them, and how Kubota will continue learning from them to adapt to their challenges with innovative technology using AI and automation.
As Kubota advances equipment that focuses on sustainability, without compromising on the power and versatility that Kubota equipment is known for, we do so alongside customers like Penns Woods Winery, and together we will realize more fully integrated customer solutions for the benefit of their business and ours for many years to come.
Looking forward to this event!
