Having lived through the last major UPS strike in 1997 I can share with you that it was crippling to every shipper and service levels were all abandoned. At that time we had only two other choices. FedEx for air and RPS(now FedEx) for ground. FedEx would not take on new customers and RPS said they wouldn't but did. Sometimes we had to wait for up to two weeks to get partial pickups.
27 years later the sting of this event has never faded. I cannot imagine the chaos this is going to cause if you are not prepared. Reminder this was when e-com was almost nonexistent. Thankfully this time around we have another choice from the US Postal Service. The USPS proved their ability to scale like no other parcel service was able to accomplish during the 4th quarter of 2020. In the middle of Covid delivering millions of packages daily they made their commitments.
