The power of networking is super cool. I had the opportunity to talk with many people that run online and offline communities this last week.
I build digital communities for a living. Building an online digital community from scratch is no easy task. Sometimes I feel alone in what I do. When I feel lonely, I call one of my community friends like @Michael (my last boss), @Nick (FinancialForce.com), @Asha (Veracode) and @Melissa (Kronos). These people have all built communities and have been successful in their own right.
The power of asking a questions to see how they have tackled certain problems when building an online community is very helpful. My advice for anyone that needs help in what they do is to seek out people that do similar things that you do.
It is important to network to get answers to questions you might not know. It is an amazing thing to know that you are not alone in your work. You could be alone within your own organization, doing what you do, but there are others doing the same thing in other organizations that can and are willing to help. Seek them out!
Resource to get you started for Community Management:
Network with other community managers. Great place to throw ideas out there and get information that you need.
Another great place to connect with peers, get research around building communities, sustaining a community, how to engage customers and tons more.
Remember, it is about who you connect with and know that your are not alone.
