If you follow me at all you will know that my work is deeply rooted in the ancient but also new practice of mindfulness.?
There is a growing body of evidence that people who practice mindfulness say it fundamentally changes how they experience life. Research tells us?that mindfulness may reduce anxiety and depression, boost our immune system, help us to manage pain, allow us to unhook from unhealthy habits and addictions, soothe insomnia, reduce high blood pressure, and even change the structure and function of our brains in positive ways.?
What exactly is Mindfulness?
It is the amazing, simple human ability we have to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
What is Meditation then?
Meditation is a method, a way of exploring, not erasing, the present moment as it is. When we meditate, we venture into the workings of our minds: our sensations (air moving in and out of the body or a noise wafting into the room), our emotions (love this, hate that, crave this, loathe that) and thoughts (did I remember to send that email?).
Mindfulness meditation?asks us to suspend judgment of the workings of the mind and unleash our natural curiosity about what is happening in the moment, allowing ourselves to be with each moment with warmth and kindness, to both ourselves and to others - revolutionary for those of us who are embroiled in the 'hustle culture'?of much of our 21st century living.
And while this may sound indulgant to some, or even a little strange,we know from research that developing this human capacity to observe ourselves and our surroundings non-judgmentally and with compassion has deep and nourishing effects on our well-being that ripple out into our daily lives and communities. This is why I do the work that I do which I describe as reminding us over busy 21st century that we can live more from our place of inner calm, clarity and focus, that we are in fact '?human beings' rather then 'human doings.'
Ancient Wisdom, Nature and Neuroscience
I love it that the work that I naturally and easily do is underpinned by best research and developments in science and medicine. But I think my real superpower is the lived experience I have of being over stressed, burnt out and disconnected and my journey back to my own inner calm, clarity and happiness. And the value of my work for me is in every single person who I support to do the same for themselves.?

We find our own Path
You may or may not resonate with mindfulness. You may or may not be tuned into the natural word around you. You may or may not have an explicit or implicit spirituality. None of this matters. We each find our own path.?
The Work?
I increasingly use words like 'thoughtwork' or?'brain breaks',?as I support each individual to connect with their particular pathway. What I am crystal clear about now is that the work is intentional. We choose to disconnect from over busynes and hustle culture, as we choose to reconnect with inner calm and connectedness. We will find resonances of this inner calm and connectedness in nature, in ancient wisdom traditions, and in the secular evidence-based practise of mindfulness. There is no hierarchy. We find our own connection points. Then we do 'the work' We are intentional. We choose. We practise. This is the work I love and Blossom, Wisdom's Garden, and Wisdom Supervision are the containers where I support individuals and create community, where we support each other as we do the work.
