Peek Into The Lab: 3 Reasons Why Our Employees Love Working in Groton!

Imagine with me...

You just completed an exploratory study on a drug that could help change the lives of future patients around the world. You raise your head from the bench to a panoramic view of the River Thames, remove your protective eyewear, and see a bald eagle dive towards the water, snatch up a northern pike and soar away with its prize. In the background, a herd of harbor seals are plopped along the beach sunning themselves, living their best lives - and so are you!

This is my embellished fantasy version of the story, but according to Eurofins PSS employees in Groton, CT, it is not too far from reality!

My name is Erin, and I am a Sourcing Specialist at Eurofins PSS Insourcing Solutions . My job is to find amazing people and present them with opportunities to work at our company!

Here are 3 reasons why current employees believe you would want to work with us:

  1. You have the opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art facility and opportunities to grow with our PSS unit.
  2. The training is fabulous.
  3. We have a very good atmosphere and general work environment.

Last week, I interviewed a group of scientists, who work on our drug development team, to hear a little bit more about why they feel this way. Here is what they have to say:

1. What is your favorite part of working at this facility?

"Working with this waterfront view nearby is amazing, but also if you move here, you’re close to so many beaches. It makes the climate more moderate, but there is always a beach to visit every weekend."

"The location is very convenient for commuting to the site (just off I-95). Most of our PSS members work in the building near the waterfront (Thames river)."

"Waterfront: you can see the sea from your lab if you are lucky. There is lots to do if you love outdoor life like hiking, gardening and golfing, etc. For the extreme, there is hunting (for a small group of people) and water life like fishing, sailing, etc."

(SEE? I wasn't completely exaggerating????220 harbor seals were spotted in the Thames this year!)

2. What is your favorite part of the job?

"I love all the people I work with here. I have the freedom to work independently in the best way that suits me, but also everyone is so helpful whenever I am stuck and have questions. It’s a very positive friendly work environment."

"I am able to work in the lab and always learn something new."

"I am a synthetic chemist in CRD, process development for small molecule formulation. I love synthetic chemistry and am fascinated with making drug molecules for the patients."

"We can make a difference."

3. Why is the work you do important to you?

"I love that this place has given me a way to combine my natural strengths with technical knowledge, so I can bring a positive impact to this place. It feels great checking off my to-do list and finding ways to do my job better each day, and it also feels great to watch my role expand each day as well."

"The love of what I am pursuing."

"I'm in the drug development group. I have been involved with several drug products that are on the market for rare diseases, antiviral and inflammatory diseases. All those products are saving patients' life or/and improving the patients' quality of life. I do feel very proud of myself."

"My work will eventually help patients. So, it is very satisfying for me."

According to?BioSpace?(a digital hub for life science news and jobs):

"Considering the recent development of COVID-19 vaccines,?interest in the biopharma industry has dramatically increased. It is one of the only industries that has grown due to the pandemic. With this growth, numerous job opportunities have become available for those who want to enter the field.?

It takes highly experienced employees to work on sensitive projects in the biopharma field. Today, combination roles that involve technology and science are more popular than ever."

Of course, there are other perks, such as amazing health care benefits, a competitive PTO plan, and company values that cultivate a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (shout out to?Emily Welz?our global Diversity and Inclusion Business Partner who helps make these policies actionable)!

I learn so much from talking to people across the US looking for work in the Biopharmaceutical industry. Time and time again, I am always moved by their passion for science and the reality they want to see!

"We can make a difference."
