A Peek Inside our “Spectacular,” “Brilliant” and “Thrilling” Summer Internship Program. (Yes, our interns really said that)

Think back on your last internship—maybe it was decades ago, or maybe it was very recently.?

What did you do? Or, perhaps the question we should instead be asking is what did you learn? At Haven Technologies, we see our internship program as a chance to help the next generation of leaders grow, learn and explore in order to lay their career foundation. So, that means more than answering phones and getting coffee (but, for the record, we have excellent coffee…and cold brew, and wine and beer on tap. You get the idea!).?

Rather, we believe our interns should play a critical role in helping us to achieve our mission–make life better, together. But, don’t just take our word for it. Rather, we asked our interns to tell us a little bit more about their summer before they went back to school. Here’s what they had to share.?

We choose to build

Summer internships are a time for the next generation to get hands-on experience. But, too often, this learning is limited to theoretical projects or assignments that are presented at the end of an internship experience, and then put on the shelf once the internship is over.?

At Haven, we’re modernizing a century-old industry. We’ll take all the help we can get, including from our full stack developer, UX designer and QA engineer interns. As our intern Henry shared, “My team members treated me like I was a true member of the team, and assigned me work that actually went into production!” Another intern, Tzipora, echoed this when she told us, “I appreciate that the interns were given real projects that actually contributed to the team.”

We matter to each other

Care, kindness and collaboration. We live by these three principles because we know if we do this right, we will create a workplace where everyone feels they belong and can thrive.?

This extends to customers, clients, partners and people sitting next to you–yes, even if they are the intern. Cianna, one of our interns, saw this in action and shared, “The work culture is incredible, with just the right amount of hard work and fun. This is the perfect environment to learn and grow in, and I loved getting to be a part of a company that cultivated ambition and growth for a great cause.”

Or, maybe Abhishek put it best when he simply said, “I am totally in love by Haven’s collaborative culture!” (He did go on to say that “I really like how personable the people are and how they constantly strive to help you whenever they can.”)

We look before we leap…but always leap

Internships are the perfect time for the next generation to gain skills that will serve as the foundation for their careers to come.

Of course, our interns had the chance to gain a variety of hard software development technical skills. Consider what Ayca shared when she said, “During my internship, I was exposed to so many different coding frameworks that I had never heard of before–whereas in school, you’re limited to the knowledge that is expected of you.”

But, there was something else–a learning even more powerful–that we were excited to hear reflected to us by our interns: achieving softer personal development milestones. When asked to share one word to describe their internship experience, one intern stated “confidence.” They expanded by sharing, “Haven has helped dissipate some of the imposter syndrome that I was feeling before coming into the internship. I was given tough problems to solve, along with the support I needed to be successful.”?

We know our interns were awesome…we hired them, after all. We’re thrilled they now know it too.?
