Pedal to the metal: Thompson Pipe Group acquisition of U.S. Pipe's pressure pipe assets

This month, Thompson Pipe Group signed a deal that’s very good news for the industry and for all the engineers and contractors whose job it is to help build and repair our creaking water infrastructure.

In this deal, we acquired the pressure pipe assets of U.S. Pipe, which were formally owned by Forterra. This means that Thompson Pipe Group can now boast even more engineering and manufacturing expertise than before. The augmented company will, in one step, become one of the biggest pressure pipe producers in North America, with all the engineering, logistical and field support necessary to back it up.

Thompson Pipe Group is well known as a major domestic producer of concrete pipe and Flowtite? FRP pipe. Now, the following products will be added to round out the portfolio:

·      Welded Steel Pressure Pipe (S-200) AWWA C200

·      Bar-wrapped Concrete Cylinder Pipe (B-303) AWWA C303

·      Prestressed Concrete Embedded Cylinder Pipe (E-301) AWWA C301

·      Prestressed Concrete Lined Cylinder Pipe (L-301) AWWA C301

So the new product catalog will cover concrete, steel, Flowtite?, fiberglass polymer pipe and structures, Flow-CreteTM and RCP. This new lineup gives engineers and contractors a full array of options for all their applications: trenchless, open-cut, gravity or pressure.

Ready to roll

Our water infrastructure is in a mess, and it’s time to get serious about fixing it. With the largest and most diverse selection of large-diameter pressure pipe products, and the most comprehensive range of trenchless products and solutions, all available here in North America.

Our new market will include the entire water infrastructure sector, but also the power and industrial sectors. With the new expanded portfolio, engineering expertise, logistics and contracting experience, and pure determination to get the job done, we’re convinced that we can help you rise up to the challenge.

People make the difference

While Thompson Pipe Group is expanding in response to growing market demand, the company remains at heart a family company, always mindful of its contracting and engineering roots. We can provide even greater levels of manufacturing, transportation, engineering and field support than previously, but always with the same commitment to relationship and doing the right thing.

People are at the heart of our promise. We’re excited to welcome our new team members from U.S. Pipe and offer them a place where they can grow professionally. The expanded company will not only be able to provide the market with more comprehensive service, the organization will have the ability to offer employees even broader opportunities across a wider skill set.

Concrete and cars

My personal area of expertise is concrete. I know it and love it, and I’m looking forward to share my expertise with my colleagues and customers. Did you know, for example, that concrete has been around for thousands of years? I may return to that topic in a future Pulse article. Suffice it to say that things have improved immensely when it comes to the concrete we use today, and to the techniques we’ve developed. I’m looking forward to discussing these things in upcoming Pulse articles.

My other love is cars. In what little free time I have, between work and family, I like to race them. There’s a nice juxtaposition, I think, between the slow, heavy, deliberate nature of concrete and the speed and excitement of racing. As the same time, they both rely on technology and experience to enjoy a successful outcome.

I’m looking forward to creating more Pulse articles soon, and I hope we can get constructive discussion and debate going.

In the meantime, enjoy your summer!
