Pearls are the gems of organic origin that are most commonly used in the jewelry trade. They have a vast market and are widely accepted by consumers.

How are the pearls made?

Pearls are pearlescent formations found in various species of mollusks. They form when an irritant enters the oyster, and the oyster cannot expel it. Then, the mantle begins to secrete nacre, which covers the foreign object, forming the pearl.

Types of Pearls

Due to their formation within the mollusk and their appearance, we have three types of pearls:

Quiste Pearl: This type forms in the pearl sac and is round, oval, or pear-shaped. It is entirely pearlescent.

Blister Pearl: It forms on the inner surface of the mollusk. It is semispherical with nacre only on the top.

Baroque Pearl: These are pretty pearls with irregular shapes.
