Peak Performance Starts with Health: A Holistic Approach to 'All is Well'
In the fast-paced world of today, achieving peak performance is not just about meeting deadlines and reaching milestones - it's about cultivating a holistic sense of well-being. As we navigate the challenges of our professional and personal lives, the realization dawns that 'All is Well' when we prioritize our health as the foundation for success.
When I first moved to London 15 years ago, little did I know that a routine set of medical tests would eventually become a turning point in my life. Fast forward to my relocation to Southampton five years later, and a perceptive nurse changed the trajectory of my well-being. Following the standard protocol, I assumed all was well as I didn't receive a call about my initial test results in London. However, this time, the nurse in Southampton sensed something amiss and urged me to take additional tests.
The revelation was staggering: my total cholesterol level was a startling 8.1 mmol/L, well above the recommended levels of 5 mmol/L. A prompt call from the nurse led to a doctor's appointment, where I learned just how precarious my health had become. The Doctor prescribed high dosage statins, but this jolt from nowhere and inquisitiveness led me to explore alternative paths to recovery.
Extensive research became my ally as I delved into the intricacies of cholesterol management. Armed with new found knowledge, I presented my case to the doctor, advocating for a lifestyle change rather than immediate medication. The ensuing disagreement led me to a research wing at the main hospital, where I willingly became a subject for their study.
For the next 18 months, my life underwent a profound transformation. From dietary overhauls to embracing physical fitness and prioritizing sleep, every facet of my lifestyle was scrutinized. Monthly blood samples were submitted, and my commitment yielded remarkable results. My total cholesterol plummeted to 5.4 mmol/L, a testament to the power of lifestyle adjustments.
As an individual of Asian origin, reaching 5.5 mmol/L meant potential discharge from the research study. Miraculously, I surpassed this threshold, becoming a successful case study for the department. They bid me farewell with a bottle of red wine, a symbolic gesture of moderation and celebration.

When you shared this journey with me in London, what amazed me was your approach to understanding it for yourself, getting to the root of it, critical thinking, and arriving at a solution that made sense, which is entirely different from a medical expert in the field. I love this approach of first-principles thinking in every aspect of business and life. In my own exploration of peak performance, I've found that excelling in three key areas, in this order of priority, is crucial: Sleep, Nutrition, and Physical Activity. Adding Meditation as a fourth pillar can elevate it to the next level of performance and flow zone.
