Peace Through Strength

When I first heard that Columbia had decided they would not accept the return of the criminals they poured into our country from their prisons, I remember wondering as I tilted my head, what would our newly empowered president do. How would he manage the situation, and would he prevail; right?
He did exactly as he said he would do. He used the threat of tariffs to cause his opponent to reconsider his position. The result was refreshing to see justice win.
I feel safe in saying that most of us like and expect justice to win at some point. We wait for it in the movies, and smile on the inside when it shows up. Imagine watching a movie where someone is persecuted, and the movie concludes without justice. It would not only be disappointing, but it would probably make us feel somewhat cheated. Even though we may not agree with what a just outcome is for a given situation, we seem to recognize justice when it comes. And when it delays, we feel it on the inside as well; don’t you think?
Peace through strength is unfortunately something we rarely observe from our leaders today, but it was remarkable to observe. Nobody can deny that.
It reinforces, at least for me, that peace also comes from doing what is right. And like justice, it does not always happen immediately or when we desire it but thank God it does arrive! Even when we must wait for it, how encouraging to know it will come.
