Peace starts inside the individual
I talked with Mandar Apte on my video-podcast Imaginize.World and he told me about his unusual work focused on peace.
We talked about the film he created From India with Love . It is documentary style, and as he described how it was made. I had seen it, and really enjoyed it. I told him I considered it a happening more than a film. He laughed and agreed!
It tells the story of his taking a small group of people from the US to India. They had all experienced violence in different ways. Their time in India transformed them and changed how they, victims of violence, saw the world. If you're in the UK or in the US you can see the film at these links. Unfortunately, it is not distributed in other countries. (Amazon US and Amazon UK )
His showing the film to people in violence prone areas such as Los Angeles in the US led to his becoming an advocate for new approaches for building sustainable peace. One of his key messages is that we have to be the change .
In Oct 2018, Mandar hosted the inaugural World Summit for Countering Violence & Extremism that brought together peace activists and law enforcement executives to brainstorm solutions to promote peace and compassion in the world.
