Peace-of-Mind: How to Upgrade Your Mental Health Operating System for Enhanced Clarity
Tracey Gazel
?? I help leaders improve mental clarity and focus, sleep better, feel calmer with less stress, be present at home and enjoy life more.
If I were to ask you, “How would you describe your life?”, what would you say?
When I think back to myself 10 years ago, I would have replied:
“Life is hard”.
“I have to put my head down and work really hard to get anything in life”.
“I don’t fit in”.
“I have to be really good at everything I do”.
“I am misunderstood. Few people really know me”.
What I have learned now is that we each have a unique Operating System (OS) that we have learned to apply to our life.
Our OS is based on our perceptions, beliefs, and experiences of life so far.
Your OS is the answer to the question, “How would you describe your life?”
Because it is the lens through which you see life based on your perceptions, beliefs, and experiences so far.
Here’s the wonderful thing –
Our perceptions, beliefs, and experiences are made of what we think about, AKA our thoughts.
But just because my experience of life has been a certain way for so long, such as “Life is hard”, “I have to put my head down and work really hard to get anything in life”, and “I don’t fit in” – doesn’t mean that my OS is permanent.
Rather, it is my perception of life that I grew up thinking primarily as a child.
And I carried it with me into adulthood.
We are all experiencing the world through the OS of our thinking.
If my OS is leading me to think of life as hard, lonely, and an uphill battle, that is what I will see and experience.
Here’s the secret –
You can update your OS.
Because your OS is not fixed and permanent; it is malleable.
Just like your phone needs an update every once in a while, you can also update your personal OS and how you see the world.
But first you must recognize that you are experiencing the world through an OS in the first place.
Take a moment and honestly answer this question:

How would you describe your life?
…
Then,
Is that working for you? Do you experience contentment, peace, resilience, and well-being on a regular basis?
If it’s working for you – great!
If it’s not working for you, know that you are not stuck there.
At any time, you can upgrade your OS by being willing to see things differently.
By being willing to change your mind.
And by remembering that your OS is made up of your thoughts, which over time have simply become a habit.
Start by being curious.
Ask yourself:
What if the way I see the world is made of thought?
What if it is possible to see things differently?
And give yourself some time today to sit with these questions with an open and clear mind.
You’ve got this,
