" Peace?! "

As the Jewish nation was poised to enter the land of Israel for the first time, they encountered a number of stumbling blocks. In one of these episodes, Pinchos, the grandson of Aaron the High Priest, saves the day by courageously executing the princess of Midian and the prince of tribe of Shimon. These two were leading an effort prepared by the Midianites to lower the moral level of the Jewish nation.

The verse (Numbers 2 5, 12) tells us of God's reward to Pinchas. “I hereby give to him the covenant of peace”.

Currently, we are all aching for true peace and tranquility and yearning for the mercy of God.

These wishes seem elusive and can make us feel overwhelm ed or hopeless. What can we do?

“You are children to God” (Deuteronomy 14.1). What does it mean that we are children to God?

If we are all children of God, that means that we are brothers and sisters as well. When God sees us acting the way brothers and sisters ought to behave toward and feel for each other, He then assumes to the utmost degree his role as Father.

This we can do. We can feel each other’s pain. We can show concern. We can assist whenever possible.

In the merit of our continued development of these feelings and actions, may we experience a salvation for our nation speedily.
