Peace on the Eastern Shore

Peace on the Eastern Shore

Peace on the Eastern Shore - John Eric Real Estate

As a resident of the Delmarva area, I am blessed to have access to the Atlantic Ocean. I can hop on the highway, head eastbound for about three hours, and arrive at a chain of beach towns along the coast. You will see boardwalks, restaurants, and ice cream stands, as well as countless beach umbrellas, local shops, and bikers. I’m admittedly biased after navigating the sands of Bethany Beach for almost 10 years now, but I believe these beaches are some of the best in the world. Not for their crystal blue waters or extraordinary resorts… these towns are special because of the ease of life they offer.

Anything you need is within 15 minutes—the beach, bay and canals, restaurants and bars, putt-putt and clothing shops. Travel roughly 10 miles north or south of Bethany and you will reach Dewey Beach and Ocean City, both of which host some of the best nightlife on the coastline. I find joy in the candid smiles and greetings of strangers. My worries disappear in front of the early morning sunrise or on a late night walk under the strikingly clear stars. Somehow, breathing the beach air is just easier.

While the beaches are wonderfully accessible, the beauty begins much closer to home. About an hour into your travels to the beach, you will find yourself on the Bay Bridge. Locals favor the bridge’s first drop-off: Kent Island. In the Stevensville region, you can take stroll on the walking trails of Terrapin Nature Park and take your dog for a visit to the pet-friendly beach. Somehow, these waters have managed to remain a true hidden gem of the eastern shore. You can visit the Mark Cascia Vineyards and share an intimate, local wine tasting with the delightful owner. Venture back in time to the 19th century with a stay at the Kent Manor Inn, created in 1820 and known for its water views, flower gardens and champagne brunch on Sundays. Treat yourself to a visit, even if only for a day, and allow yourself to step away from the routine of common life.

There are few things I love more than the ocean. Salt water in my hair and sand between my toes… well, for me that’s paradise. Fresh air has the power to renew. A sea breeze is therapy for the soul. Remember, we are incredibly privileged to live so close to this ocean destination, so on your next free weekend, grab your summer read and head east for a nice summer break. No matter how brief your visit, you won’t regret it!
