Peace amongst the storm..

Peace amongst the storm..

Why transitioning from corporate to entreprenuer, carpooler to homeschool teacher hasn't been that hard...

Many of us have been thrust into becoming homeschooling parents as well as transisting into our "New Normal" in terms of working from home. As a mother of 5 children under 12yrs old, 2 of which are dual language spanish, 1 is a middle schooler and the rest are in elementary the transition has been an adventure but not to crazy. Having left my corporate job 3 days before the world shut down and transitioning to my new normal of starting a new business I, like many have had to really look at what will make my day flow the best.

Here are some tips that I implemented that has allowed me to stay shane and get the best from my day or at less 80% of the day.

  1. Early risers gain peace - give yourself time in the morning to prepare your day. Striving for a 5am start has been my goal (not always physically getting up but striving for that). Time is vital - Set your day up, meditate, read, do your workout and get ready before the demands start.
  2. Empower your kids to set their own schedules - its too easy just to let your kids stay on their devices #homeschooling" for the day so they are not in your way. That's REAL. What I found was that empowering my kids to set out what they do within the day allows them to have structure. Setting game time from school time was KEY.
  3. Activity time together - don't be so rigid that you don't find time to engage with activities such as art, games or even having podcasts playing in the background. Find games such as Act your wages by Dave Ramsey or painting a canvas has created great moments throughout the day.
  4. If I cook you will learn too - get your kids involved in the process. Working a 9-5 didn't allow me to have those moments with my kids and now that I have this time, I can enjoy those 'let me help' times really be impactful.
  5. We all need downtime - switch off, put the devices down, turn off the notifications, sit down and relax. Don't feel guilty as not every day will be as productive as you may want. Being accessible to everyone is a time consuming as being in an office, so when you decide that its downtime be in the moment.

These times have been challenging for everyone especially your children but what I have learnt is that even in the challenge there are great lessons to be learn't, moments to be experienced and time we will never get back so lets embrace this new normal and live.

Great article SELINA DAVIS. Kids crave screen time daily. It's a good idea to add productive online activities or coding clubs to the mix. They can be fun and challenging. Code Super Powers
