PDFP ROADSHOW AT THE NELSON MANDELA BAY PORT
Transnet National Ports Authority
Port landlord responsible for the safe, effective & efficient economic functioning of the South African port system.
With the rollout of the Port Development Framework Plans (PDFPs) Roadshows, the Nelson Mandela Bay Ports were next in line as the second session was held at the Port of Ngqura.
In collaboration with the Port Consultative Committee (PCC), SAMSA, the Ports Regulator of South Africa (PRSA) and the Department of Transport (DoT) the roadshows engaged port stakeholders on the port development plans.
Amongst other plans, the Port of Port Elizabeth highlighted the construction of the Liquid Bulk Berth A100, the repurposing of the Charl Malan quay to increase volumes and position the port as an automotive hub, and marine infrastructure upgrade.
The Port of Ngqura has piloted shore tension which serves to mitigate undercurrent and heavy winds to improve vessel stability. The relocation of manganese and liquid bulk from the Port of P.E. to the Port of Ngqura form part of the short-term plans.
These roadshows are part of a broader plan to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the port system.
The next session goes to the Western Region, starting with the Port of Mossel bay on 08 May 2023
