PCMG Staff Spotlight: Energy Cost Recovery Analyst

Next up in our series of Staff Spotlights is Cameron S. - one of the newest members to join the team.

Cameron has spent the last two years working as a Sustainability Analyst for the Inspired PLC Group, but has moved over to the PCMG family to apply his outstanding analytical skills to our client base.

We’re excited to have his fantastic skillset on board and are looking forward to seeing the impact he’ll have on all our private and public sector organisations.

Carry on reading for his full Q&A…

What does your job entail?

My role as an Energy Cost Recovery Analyst involves a detailed investigation into each of my client's energy expenditure.
There are numerous avenues that the data can take you down, as you look for VAT inconsistencies, billing errors, and a multitude of other potential cost saving opportunities.
The role entails analysing non-commodity elements against the multitude of regional and national regulatory charging structures and successfully identifying incorrect pass through elements, ultimately?recovering the client money.

How long have you worked for PCMG?

I have worked part-time in PCMG for six months, before taking a full-time position in July 2023. Before that, I was a Sustainability Analyst in the Regulated Services department for the Inspired PLC Group.

?

What inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

I've always had an interest in sustainability, particularly within the built environment sphere. My previous role introduced me to the numerous sustainability challenges facing public sector clients, and the strains that climate change is causing on their buildings, and to the staff that work within them.
At PCMG, we're directly focussed on the impacts that building energy use has on our clients and finding solutions to reduce their energy costs.

?

What do you like most about your job?

No client is exactly alike, which means that every analysis journey is different and presents a brand-new learning opportunity.

?

What has been your favourite project at PCMG?

We're always on the look-out for opportunities that will save a client the most money, so when you find a potential saving that'll make a real dent in their energy costs and see it through to completion, it's a big sense of accomplishment.

?

What’s the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Working alone will never end up creating a better outcome than working collaboratively, whether that's utilising team members with different skill sets, or collaborating with a client to best understand their needs.

?

What are some of the challenges you have faced in the industry?

Getting clients interested in sustainability is only getting easier- the real challenge is making sure that enthusiasm translates into real change.
Investing in energy saving measures and green technology is only half the battle; making sure clients are investing in the local community and nurturing sustainable work cultures is the challenging part.

?

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

Mind-reading would probably be my first choice, although being able to fly would come in a close second!

?

Is there anything you would like to add?

I am a fully qualified Lean & Six Sigma Yellow Belt. Six Sigma is a set of methodologies and tools used to improve business processes by reducing defects and errors, minimising variation, and increasing quality and efficiency.

?
