PayrollOrg Congress Nashville: JGA Digest!

PayrollOrg Congress Nashville: JGA Digest!

Just like that - PayrollOrg 's Congress in Nashville is over. What a week it was!

I mentioned previously that this years theme 'Total Payroll Transformation' couldn't be more timely.

As we enter a new global era, our industry is bound for change, but together, we can embrace the opportunities ahead.

Boy - did we do just that last week at Congress!

PayrollOrg

Unfortunately, attending all sessions is impossible but I have summarized some of my favorites below.

Nashville was an unforgettable experience, packed with thought-provoking discussions, expert panels, invaluable insights (and LOTS of fun)!

Payroll professionals from around the world gathered to explore the latest trends and innovations shaping our industry, the energy and excitement was infectious.

For me, one of the standout events of the congress was the Executive Summit, which brought together top payroll leaders to discuss the most pressing issues facing our industry.

The summit provided a unique opportunity for executives to engage in high-level discussions, share best practices, and collaborate on solutions to common challenges.

It's clear that this type of focused, executive-level dialogue is essential for driving innovation and progress in the payroll industry.

A highlight of the Executive Summit was the panel discussion on 'AI's role in shaping the future of the payroll industry,' hosted by Nick Day of JGA Recruitment Group .

The panel featured industry titans with remarkable knowledge on the topic, including Nathan Male, Partner at Deloitte UK , Sheri Sullivan, MBA of 安永 , Joe Ranzau of Grant Thornton (US) and Dimitris Papageorgiou of 毕马威 .

Their insights and perspectives on the potential impact of AI in payroll were undoubtedly invaluable to all in attendance.

Pete A. Tiliakos and Julie Fernandez also gave an insightful talk on ‘Payroll as a driver of strategic business outcomes’.

In addition to the structured topics, one of the key issues discussed by payroll industry leaders during the Executive Summit was the difficulty in attracting, securing, and retaining top payroll talent.

This is where JGA Recruitment Group 's expertise comes into play.

As the leading global payroll and HR technology recruitment specialist, JGA is uniquely positioned to help organizations overcome these challenges by connecting them with the best talent in the industry.

With a proven track record of success and an extensive network of qualified professionals, JGA is the go-to partner for companies looking to build and maintain a world-class payroll team.

Throughout Congress, attendees had the opportunity to attend a wide range of workshops and sessions, each offering unique perspectives and practical takeaways.

The sessions in which I attended and particularly stood out were...

"Unlocking the Secrets of Global Payroll Project Management"

In this workshop, Dee Byrd,CPP, PHR, SHRM-CP , and Catherine Honey shared their expertise on navigating the complexities of global payroll management.

Using engaging analogies and real-world examples, they emphasized the importance of staying on track, communicating effectively, and building a strong network of support.

As Dee and Catherine pointed out, recognizing the challenges and pitfalls of global payroll is the first step towards creating success for current and future projects.

"Accelerated Global Expansion - Payrolls Ultimate Challenge."

The "Accelerated Global Expansion" workshop, led by Richard Limpkin ACMA, CGMA, focused on the critical role of payroll in Mergers & Acquisitions.

Limpkin stressed the importance of involving payroll early in the M&A process, as payroll professionals hold vital data that can help maintain project timelines and avoid unnecessary challenges. He also highlighted the cultural obstacles that can arise during global expansion, reminding us that "Payroll is always local, even on a global scale."

Another key theme that emerged throughout the congress was the importance of accurate and effective payroll reporting.

"Global Payroll Reporting required for the Changing Workforce"

In this workshop, Fidelma McGuirk and Sharon Tayfield , MCiPP, shared their insights on navigating the complexities of global reporting and the consequences of poor reporting practices.

As Sharon emphasized, "Be prepared to report the data out" – a reminder that payroll professionals must be ready to provide accurate and timely data to stakeholders at all levels.

Beyond the formal sessions and workshops, the PayrollOrg Congress provided countless opportunities for networking, collaboration, and fun.

"EOR V PEO"

Led by Max van der Klis-Busink and Kira Rubiano .

The pair provided a brief background on Employer of Record (EOR) and Professional Employer Organization (PEO) models, before delving into the key differences between the two.

They also offered valuable insights on how to model your global payroll and what to be aware of when considering these options.

This session was particularly relevant for organizations looking to expand their operations internationally, as understanding the nuances of EOR and PEO can be crucial in ensuring compliance and smooth operations.

Away from Congress...

From exploring the vibrant streets of Nashville to indulging in the city's famous hot chicken, attendees forged new connections and strengthened existing relationships within the payroll community.

Oh yeah - & if you are ever in Nashville, head to Tootsies. It was the best honky-tonk we found!
