Payouts Pulse (Edition 011): Is Your Influencer Contract Ready for the AI Era? Discover the Changes ??
In this month’s issue, we’re exploring how AI is shaking up influencer contracts, the latest on the podcast industry, and some exciting updates from Trolley. ?? Here’s how we’re keeping your finger on the pulse this month:?
AI Hype Sparks Influencer Contract Overhauls for Name, Image and Likeness
In light of generative AI’s increasingly impressive capabilities and the changing content-creation space, some influencers are including AI-related stipulations to their contracts.
“My voice is everywhere, and it does create a little bit of a sense of paranoia,” said Joy
Ofodu, a full-time creator and voice actor. Ofodu has recently started including an AI-related rider for speaking engagements, asking clients not to train, adapt, or modify her voice on any kind of AI system.
Adding an AI clause could be the latest shift in the evolution of influencer content usage rights. While brands used to have free reign, with usage rights lasting anywhere from six months to perpetuity, the standard has changed to 30 days. This change gives influencers more control over their content and signifies a push for bigger creator payouts—and an AI clause may do the same as the industry evolves.
Bottom line: AI has brought on a shift in influencer marketing, and influencers are looking to safeguard their intellectual property and content usage rights.
Why we care: As AI continues to change the landscape of content creation, influencers may want to take a closer look at their contracts and take the capabilities of AI into account.?
Key quote: “The industry is a long way from standardization in how different players approach content usage rights, especially as the influencer economy and AI hype cycle continues…Still, creators are trying to set a precedent, Ofodu said, referring to the SAG-AFTRA deal and other legislation she and other creators are advocating for to protect themselves as AI continues to evolve.”

Dean Durnford, Account Executive, has spent over two and a half years at Trolley learning the ins and outs of the gig economy and helping businesses in unique fields improve their contractor payout processes. Here’s what he’s been reflecting on lately:
"Specialized segments of the gig economy, like telehealth or expert networks, are rewriting contractor management rules.
These industries demand rapid scaling while maintaining high-quality service from skilled professionals—be it doctors or industry specialists.
The key is fostering strong, long-term contractor relationships through streamlined processes and fair, timely compensation.
This approach not only ensures swift deployment but also builds a loyal, high-performing contractor base.
As this trend grows, expect more specialized industries to follow suit, revolutionizing workforce management for highly skilled contractors.”
