June 2022 Edition?
Welcome to the first summer edition of the Payment Technology Newsletter, where we share emerging trends in PayTech, financial services, and B2B and B2C commerce. May was a special month for small and midsize business owners – thanks for supporting America’s SMBs.
As multiple industries prepare for summer conferences, Nationwide Payment Systems has seen growing interest in cryptocurrency, alternative payment methods, and concerns about how business owners can protect themselves from rising credit card fees and inflation. We cover these topics and celebrate America’s small businesses in our B2B Vault podcast episodes throughout May. Listen in and join us as we explore the ever-changing payments ecosystem.
Stay tuned for our coverage of this month’s annual Southeast Acquirers Association (SEAA) event in Atlanta, a payments industry conference we have faithfully supported for more than 20 years. SEAA gave us a shout-out for our perfect attendance record in 2021, the year that coincidentally marked the 21th anniversaries of both SEAA and Nationwide Payment Systems.
We’re glad to have you with us on our journey and look forward to hearing from you. Send your feedback, questions about our services, and any suggestions on future podcast topics.

Small Business Week
During the month of May, Small Business Week reminds us of the many contributions that small and midsize business owners (SMBs) make to the U.S. economy. Where would we be without the many hardworking entrepreneurs who bootstrap their businesses and overcome all types of challenges??Our hats are off to SMBs for surviving the worst of times, including the recent pandemic that forced businesses around the world to shut their doors.?
Small business owners are tough and resilient and found ways to survive Covid – some turned to side hustles and others pivoted to digital technologies. Small Business Week also reminds us of how far we’ve progressed as business owners. Both Justin and I started our own businesses, basically by looking around and finding opportunities to do something better. Whether or not you start out with a budget or resources, the entrepreneurial journey takes guts and vision, and in reality, we should be celebrating small business owners every day of the year.??

May was an active month on Capitol Hill. We received word that Bill HR 4395, the Payments Choice Act of 2022, is up for a vote. If you want to protect your right to use cash at checkout, contact your local representative and share your support of HR 4395. Also in May, the MORE act, which stands for marijuana opportunity re-investment and expungement act, passed in the House in 2020 but remains stalled in the Senate. Some senators plan to introduce alternative bills but why not just get it done? We’ll keep you posted on these developments.?
In other news, contactless payments continues to gain momentum but seriously, would you really want to plant a chip inside your hand so you can wave it over the POS? Is it that much more convenient than waving a smartwatch, wearable, contactless card or smartphone?

B2B payments are finally coming into their own, with growing numbers of businesses accepting electronic payments. B2B payments are finally catching up with B2C by enabling your partners and suppliers to pay from anywhere. B2B companies that hesitate, due to concerns about costs or complications, are getting left behind. Don’t forget the time value of money – these systems can speed up how fast you get paid. Even if you accept a credit card and pay a high 3 percent transaction rate, wouldn’t you want to get that payment right away instead of waiting 60 days??
