The next quarterly estimated tax payment for the third quarter is due 9/16.
But practically what options are available to taxpayers to process this payment?
Taxpayers have the option to pay electronically, by mailing a check in to the IRS, or while on the phone with the IRS
Paying electronically is recommended over sending in a check.
Below are some methods of electronically paying the IRS:
? Pay via “Direct Pay” without the need to log in but will need identifying information handy.
? You can also register and log on to your IRS account and pay there. This allows taxpayers access to their payment history and other tax information.
? Taxpayers can also use the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) to make a payment.
The IRS accepts credit cards, albeit with a processing fee, but the processor, not the IRS, charges the fee.
Remember the goal is to pay enough estimated taxes throughout the year so that there won't be underpayment penalties when it comes to filing time.
