Paying At Least 25% More For Discovery 3 Diesel Models Than We Buy Any Car!,,,,,,,,

As used car markets continue to fragment and evolve the frailties and flaws in the pricing logarithms used by the tech based online valuation companies become more and more apparent; in reality the used car markets within which they are now providing accurate valuations and offers, appears to be diminishing.

Especially when you consider how much this difference will increase, once you have arrived at your local disposal centre. It is an unfortunate fact (and a growing awareness) that the offer you first get from the tech based valuations companies (The likes of Cazoo and We Buy Any Car – there are many others), is the value to get you there; invariably not the one you will actually receive.

And before the lawyers for We buy Any Car begin frothing at the mouth some information for clarity. The headline above (for which screen shots and an audit trail are available) relate to an example I recently made an offer on. From a due diligence and market comparison perspective I also decided to have the car valued by We Buy Any Car via their website and of course have access to all the appropriate documentation.

However I have chosen not to publish them as this post is not designed to help We Buy Any Car provide more accurate valuations. This post is aimed at those owning a Discover 3 Diesel, especially those living in the now expanded ULEZ zone in London; those who may be thinking of selling, and advising them that there is a specialist buyer of these cars in the market.

In truth and like many other used car markets in the UK, this entire used car market (what I call the ULEZ effected used car market for premium diesel models) is (and will continue to be) badly served by the tech based valuation companies; when it comes to accurate valuations and disposal services. A market that also includes BMW diesel models along with diesel models produced by Mercedes Benz, Audi and Porsche.

The reasons why are likely to be varied and neither for expansive discussion now nor important; but in brevity it will probably be down to an over reliance on technology, a lack of associated market data and a lack of expertise (or the professionals required) in how certain used car markets operate. But to be fair to We Buy Any Car at least they made an offer; other tech based valuation companies (BIG for example), wouldn’t or couldn’t provide a valuation at all.

In the interests of transparency though, the BIG platform did forward my details to another company who did value the car (Money4YourMotors); there were just two issues. Firstly they were still offering 11% less for the car than I did; secondly Money4YourMotors? Really? This is probably the last company a traditional Land Rover Discovery owner would consider contacting.

What is important though is that those owning and looking to sell a Discover 3 Diesel (or a diesel model produced by one of the manufacturers previously mentioned) know that they can gain unrivalled access to the market expertise and the disposal routes required, in order to get the most competitive offer for their car.
