Paying it forward, keeping the chain going.

From dorm rooms to corporate corridors, First Residential College of University of Malaya (ASTAR) will always have a place in my heart.

Last week, I was excited to be returning to ASTAR to share my experiences with the new Gen of undergraduates during UM-WOW: Minggu Haluansiswa (MHS)!

Returning as an alumnus brought back a flood of memories and emotions, with a newfound appreciation of the humbling yet transformative experience in ASTAR. ASTAR was definitely more than just a place to sleep, it was a crucible where friendships were nurtured, passions were ignited and a journey of self-discovery and personal development.

My active involvement have culminated in my achievement of the prestigious Royal Education Award (APD). I could not help but reminiscing the formative years in this unique environment which was an enabler that shaped my character and molded who I am today.

One of the ASTARians (A) was feeling a little down about not getting the first choice (Economics) but the seventh choice (Real Estate). I reassured A that not getting the first choice is not the end of the road, and of course, shared my personal story of overcoming a similar challenge (Dentistry vs Quantity Surveying (QS) then Master in Project Management), doing my best and finding unexpected opportunities. Turns out, QS was a stepping stone for me to open doors to amazing opportunities. I encouraged A to consider real estate as a gateway which might enable her to maneuver a career towards the Economics space within the Real Estate industry.

By sharing stories alongside with Azzairi Rosle and exchanging opinions, we genuinely hope that we were able to ignite sparks of curiosity and adventure in the fresh faces of ASTAR, encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones and explore new horizons.

I definitely had a fantastic time reconnecting with old friends and meeting new people. A big shout out to Dr. Mohd Istajib Mokhtar for the invitation and making this happen! Every effort counts, lets keep the ripple effect going ??
