Paying attention to America’s seniors: Announcing our 2024 Social Threats to Aging Well in America report

The number of older Americans is growing, and they are living longer than before. With this rapidly growing and aging population, it’s important to understand the challenges that seniors face, particularly related to health and well-being. What are seniors most concerned about? How does it influence their health and their health care? Is it different from state to state???

Our 2024 Social Threats to Aging Well in America survey aims to identify and understand the primary social and environmental factors preventing seniors in the United States from receiving the care and support they need to thrive in their later years.??

By understanding the impacts of these unique health care challenges, we can better advocate for seniors’ needs and help them age well and live healthier, more prosperous lives.? As we mark National Senior Citizens Day – a day encouraging support for senior citizens to live their lives to the fullest and as independently as possible – we recognize the role we, as a company, play in supporting the best outcomes for seniors. Alignment is committed to continuing to listen to their concerns, and to create more effective pathways to their health and wellness. We hope the insights in this report help others – from health care providers and insurance companies to families and caregivers – to do the same.??

Report Highlights?

We polled more than 2,000 Americans aged 65 and older to examine eight key social determinants of health and their impact on seniors. The study revealed the top three most-cited social threats to aging well in America this year are:?

  1. Aging in Place??
  2. Lack of Transportation and Access to Medical Care??
  3. Economic Insecurity??

While our report dives into the data on a national and statewide level for the states in which we operate, we didn’t want to lose sight of the individuals we heard from. You’ll find quotes from the seniors we surveyed describing why these social barriers threaten their health and well-being, offering actionable insights for health care providers, insurance companies – even family members – because aging touches everyone. We hope you find the report as valuable as we do.??
