This year has not gone as planned for anyone, has it? Let's move beyond the why and how and get to what's next. Long ago, I learned that bridges and walls are built brick-by-brick and that many hands make short work.
Experience has also taught me that when all else falls away, our social networks and our communities can be what lifts us up, if we keep those communities healthy.
I am truly fortunate to have had so many mentors along the way and attempt to #PayItForward each year by mentoring others directly in my leadership with the Insights Association's Northwest Chapter and other nonprofits where I have served as a volunteer board member for more than 20 years.
When the pandemic hit earlier this year and the economic recession was beginning to take hold, I felt helpless, despondent, and generally useless. In May, a stranger, Hana Rahseed reached out to me directly and offered to share my profile with her network. I realized that this was something I could do as well.
This is how I can help - by sharing one of my most important assets - my network. I could help raise the profile of folks who found their careers interrupted by COVID. That kind of includes everyone at this point.
In under five months, the posts in this campaign have been viewed more than 40k times.

A little About Me
This year was supposed to mark my return to full-time employment after a two-year hiatus to be a supportive father, community member, and business/marketing consultant. This year was supposed to bring a new start in a new industry.
With those plans in doubt and tons of extra time on my hands, I have decided to spend a few hours each day helping others find the right fit with Pay It Forward Profiles. This campaign provides a way for me to be productive helping others while I look for MY next career stop and leverages some of my publishing and marketing skills.
For more than 25 years, I have worked in marketing and insights for small and midsized businesses in both profit and not-for-profit worlds. Most notably, I led the company renewal efforts of one of the original survey software platforms in the U.S. (CFMC/Survox) and led local chapters of Marketing and Insights Association chapters to award-winning performance.
I also have hands-on experience with all types of insights work - qualitative, quantitative, UX, behavioral, etc., but my more recent experience is survey-based.
Along the way, I have been mentored, guided, and supported by others who were not "at their first rodeo" and I am forever grateful to have worked with them.
Let's help each other get through 2020 and come out stronger, better, and more equal!.
Inspiration for PayItForward Profiles
This LinkedIn profile sharing campaign is inspired by the work of Hana Rasheed, CSM. Hana reached out and offered to share my profile with her network as a part of her PayItFoward campaign highlighting scrappy professionals affected by the destruction left by COVID-19.
I was recently honored to be featured as her 100th profile. Her selfless act inspired me to take action and commit to doing what I could to help raise all of our boats equally. I cannot hire until I have a department or company to run, but I can help others gain notoriety among my network. The initial structure of the post below was Hana's as well.
