Paws for Thought: How Aleut’s Office Dogs are Shaping Company Culture
In an era where workplace culture has become a key differentiator for job seekers, Aleut has taken a unique approach: integrating dogs into daily operations. As Aleut continues to grow, the team not only benefits from flexible work arrangements, strong leadership, and a supportive community, but also from Aleut’s pet-friendly policy, which has become a beloved element of the company’s workplace culture since launching this past Spring. ?
Walking through the halls of Aleut Plaza’s third floor, you’ll quickly note that employees aren’t just collaborating over projects and meetings—they’re connecting through the company’s four-legged team members. Aleut’s pet policy encourages employees to bring their well-behaved dogs into the office, fostering an environment of warmth, connection, and camaraderie. Each office dog has even received a "promotion" along with their own personalized nameplate. From the eager Gus, our Paw-litical Liaison, to the regal Nymeria, our Chief Woof Officer, these dogs do more than just wag their tails—they create opportunities for cross-team connections and engagement across all levels of our organization.
Spotlight: K9 Colleagues
Under the guidance of Nymeria (not pictured), our stately Chief Woof Officer, owned by Aleut’s President & CEO Skoey Vergen , we’re reminded of the importance of leadership in shaping a supportive environment.
Aleut’s shy yet dignified Canine Content Creator, Onyx, owned by our Communications Coordinator, Kailyn Kashevarof, quietly navigates the office, earning affection on her own terms. Once she warms up, her cuddles are unparalleled, reminding us that patience and understanding foster deeper connections—an essential lesson for our collaborative work environment.
Then there’s Jax, Aleut’s Bark-eting Comms Specialist, owned by Communications Manager Samantha Mack . As a charming Bernedoodle navigating his adult years with earnestness, Jax embodies a spirit of curiosity and playfulness that inspires creativity and camaraderie among coworkers.
Gus, Aleut's Paw-litical Liason, is the epitome of good behavior. Owned by our Director of Government Affairs, Ethan Tyler , Gus’ eagerness to perform tricks for pets from passersby combined with Ethan’s open-door policy not only puts smiles on faces but also serves as an icebreaker for employees, encouraging interactions between teams.
Catoosa, our lovable Director of Sniff Strategies, owned by VP of Communications & Marketing Kate Gilling , is always on high alert for birds outside the office windows. With her expressive ears and playful demeanor, she’s a constant source of joy and energy at Aleut.

Bode (not pictured), our gentle Risk Investigator owned by our Risk Manager, Ingrid Kelly, MBA, CPCU , embodies calm and wisdom. His presence reminds us of the value of experience and tranquility in a busy and growing workplace.
And Dolly, our small but mighty Paw-ductivity Manager, owned by Sr. Director of Regional Affairs, Theresa Cross , emphasizes that every member of our pack—human or canine—plays a part in fostering productivity and positivity.
Employee Health & Wellness
The ability to bring our dogs with us to the office does more than just create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere—it has significant impacts on employee well-being, stress reduction, and overall productivity. Studies have shown that pets in the workplace can lower cortisol levels, decrease anxiety, and increase overall job satisfaction, making the workday more enjoyable and balanced. Employees at Aleut often take a few minutes to de-stress by watching Catoosa’s vigilant bird watching or by sharing a quiet break with Bode. These interactions provide moments of calm and connection, helping our team recharge and return to their day with renewed focus and energy. Employees at all levels—whether junior staff or senior leadership—connect in casual and meaningful ways through our office dogs, which helps us continue to break down the traditional barriers of corporate life and encourage open communication.
The Broader Vision: Serving Our Shareholders
Aleut’s pet-friendly policy is just one element of the company’s broader commitment to a supportive and balanced work environment where leadership is approachable and employees feel valued. In the words of Aleut President & CEO Skoey Vergen:
"We introduced this policy because we believe in creating a workplace where employees feel supported in all elements of office culture. Having dogs in the office not only brings joy but also promotes an atmosphere of collaboration and well-being. When our employees thrive, our entire organization benefits, and that, in turn, helps us better serve our shareholders."
This forward-thinking approach to employee well-being helps Aleut foster a positive workplace culture where everyone can bring their best, and whole, selves to work. By ensuring our employees feel supported and engaged, we’re better equipped to create opportunities for our shareholders and make a lasting impact on the communities we serve.
