Pausing to find our way
There are pauses, and there are pauses.
The ones we choose and those foisted upon us.
Yet whether they are voluntary or imposed, a momentary slowing down or even stopping can provide a crucial opportunity to take stock of where we are.
A pause offers the gift of asking the question: where do I want to go?
Because of life's usual momentum, it is hard to even consider whether we are heading in the right direction.
That’s the nature of momentum and the way that groupthink works…
So, it takes courage to embrace a pause.
Yet this is arguably the only place where we can see the other options and change course. Because we usually are going too fast to notice or take action.
Therefore, as everything else around us is speeding up, where and how do we need to pause?
And find our way home.
Pause. See differently. Re-story…
This week
Musing on pausing, with questions and a couple of poems.
A few good words
A poem written last year...
JUST PAUSE
What’s the rush?
Is there a winner
in the fastest through life race?
Or what is gained
by always thinking on the run?
Living on assumptions
may not be a healthy diet.
And narrow focus
is only helpful in a tunnel.
Instead, what flowers of grace
might blossom if we pause,
breathe and smile?
