Pause in Dear Deer articles

I’m going to take a short break from this series and write a few articles on the November 5 Troy, Michigan city council election. After the election articles are written, I plan to write more about possible solutions to the deer issue. If you haven’t read it yet and want to learn more about urban wildlife issues and solutions used elsewhere, you might want to review this article, written three years ago:

https://usameltingpot.org/urban-deer-overpopulation-and-road-safety/

I mentioned to a few of you that I have six avid readers who track all of my internet activity, especially on the Troy Patch. I check their comments every now and then. Probably nobody else sees them, so I thought I’d share them with you.

Here’s the best comment from previous deer articles, from “Daffy Noodnicks”, who when he’s not making personal attacks, often acts like his pseudonym, which means “silly annoying person.”

I’m glad Daffy got my main point. He probably noticed that I quoted a sobering statistic: 200 people die annually in the USA from Deer Vehicle Crashes. If ever there are deer rutting in my backyard, I’ll send them over to Daffy’s house since he’d like to watch them.

Here’s Daffy’s very insightful comment (copied verbatim – he’s in a hurry and doesn’t have time to proofread his comments before posting). I’m not sure how he thinks coyotes are beneficial in a residential neighborhood. Maybe they keep the population of outdoor cats at bay.

Daffy Noodnicks: “These are awful and devoid of useful information but at least they aren’t offensive, yet. A big plus on this one is at least there does not seem to be anything glaringly, shocking, patently false Like the last one I read. So, yay.

this is a couple of anecdotal stories meant to inspire terror, without solutions such as *gasp* watch your dog and don’t interfere with fighting bucks. The danger from any of these scenarios is in fact minuscule. The primary danger from deer is motor vehicle accidents. Coyotes are beneficial.

I would be delighted to see bucks competing in my backyard. I would not be so stupid as allow animals, children, or myself to go out side and be amongst them.

I can’t wait to see how this enthralling epic concludes (if it ever does) said nobody ever.”

And here’s the second place entry, from Glenn:

Glenn: “Yes, please write more about this subject. I found this last article very enjoyable. It sounds like these randy deer and coyotes are just out looking for trouble. Are they really challenging dogs to come out and rumble or is that just a clever euphemism that you learned in writing school? It reminds me a lot of the book The Outsiders written by S. E. Hinton. These coyotes are just like Ponyboy and the others in his gang that were always rumbling with the Socs. Anywho, definitely looking for the next installment of this captivating series.”
