PATTERN MAGIC?Ⅱ3D and KeyShot? expand pattern makers' activities.

PATTERN MAGIC?Ⅱ3D and KeyShot? expand pattern makers' activities.

Ms Ohashi worked in the pattern industry for 20 years after graduating
from ESMOD JAPON. Now independent, she founded Apparel Play Office Inc,
where she is involved in pattern making, 3D apparel modelling and
fashion technology consulting.

How do you use PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D in your work?

It can be used in the pattern maker's work, such as checking the volume and line of the pattern creation and confirming revisions with the designer.

For example, if you want to check the length balance, gathers, draping positions, etc. of a long dress or coat, PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D makes it very easy because you can assemble the actual toile once in CAD. It is particularly tedious to reassemble a toile with a difficult design many times.

Sometimes we even use PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D to check and make small pattern corrections.

This does not mean that the actual assembly of the toile is eliminated. Pattern makers can see the collar, sleeves, cuffs, sleeve swing, etc. in detail on the actual garment.

What are the advantages of PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D?

Easy to learn and use
Low initial cost
Can digitise toiles

PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D is linked to the 2DCAD, PATTERN MAGICⅡ, and works similarly, so it is good that 3D can be created easily.

PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D is also good in that it can be used on a PC with general specifications. Other 3DCG software requires high graphics card specifications. If you just want to check your toiles or toiles with the designer, you do not need anything with high graphics quality.

In terms of price, subscription software is inexpensive and makes it easy to get started with 3D.

How useful is KeyShot??

PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D is perfect for the work of pattern makers and for checking with designers, but the problem is that the quality of the images is difficult to convey in merchandise meetings and sales meetings.

KeyShot covers the quality issue, and KeyShot is also relatively easy to use, so I think it will be easy to implement in the apparel industry.

With KeyShot, we can add fabrics and backgrounds of retail stores, which will enhance the image for merchandisers and salespeople, make it easier for them to make a decision and increase the decision rate.

How does KeyShot differ from other 3DCG software?

Other 3DCG software is complex, containing 2D, 3D and rendering functions, but KeyShot specialises in rendering, so its functions are focused, easy to understand and simple to use. It is also good that it is language-localised, so people who have never done 3DCG before are less likely to reject it.

What is the key to getting started with 3D?

We often hear that people find it difficult to get used to using a 3D screen. This means that they are used to the flat surface movements, but are confused by the back-and-forth depth movements.

There will also be some discomfort in getting used to the fact that 3D screens are not life-size and the difference in spatial perception from the real thing. The same thing happened in the past when we moved from hand drawing to 2DCAD.

After getting used to 2DCAD, suddenly learning 3D-specific operations can be tiring. But once you get used to it, you will wonder why you thought it was so hard.

What would you like to say to those who are starting in 3D?

When people think of DX (digital transformation) and AI, they often think that human jobs will be lost. Technology has a high processing capacity, but humans are better at things like sensitivity. Only humans can judge the beauty of a product's appearance, comfort and feel.

I would like to create a system that allows us to focus on work that can only be done by people and on areas where we want to spend time and effort, and to spend time and effort on training personnel. I want to work to enrich people in the garment industry through the use of DX and technology.

?3D and new technologies will be my weapon to enrich my creations. I want people to start with the feeling that "3D is fun!"
